So far in the last 30 days, my blog 'The Brave New World' has gotten 4,266 views and I've gained several new subscribers. Surpassing 4,000 views was a great milestone for my blog and on top of that, got 73 thumbs ups versus 7 thumbs down. I've gotten many tips and nice comments as well and I am thankful for the privilege to publish my articles on PublishOx. To my new subs, I say welcome and I hope you find my articles entertaining. If you're just passing by, do stop in again sometime in the future. Everyone is welcome to visit my blog.
I've always enjoyed writing. I remember composing lyrical poems when I was just 12 years old. I like writing short stories about anything, really. In the last week, I wrote a couple of articles on the Studebaker Corporation and Seatrain Lines Inc., after finding some old stock certificates I had stored away in a box and forgotten about. I purchased those on Ebay about 10 years ago as I have a mild fascination for trains. After finding them again, it inspired me to write about these companies. I remember my Dad telling me tales of when he and his brothers used to 'fight' over who got to drive their Dad's Studebaker. I figured someone out there would be interested in knowing about this now legendary car company from the past.
I can also add that I have a few more old stock certificates and will write about the companies behind them. They include the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central Railroad. I even have a toy New York Central engine. Last time I tried it on the track about 4 years ago, she still worked. I also have a complete Canadian National (CN) Railroad train set, still in its box.
A couple of weeks ago, I published an article related to the Covid19 pandemic and the vaccine mandates. It got plenty of attention but what surprised me was the split between the thumbs ups and downs. It's almost evenly split down the middle but tipping towards 'down' with one extra down vote. I knew it would be a controversial piece and would touch a few nerves. In fact, none of my other articles received as many dislikes.
I don't see that as a bad thing. For instance, last month I watched a video on BitChute whose content I found disturbing but nevertheless, enjoyed the video for the knowledge it was sharing. I found myself debating if I should give a thumbs up or down. I liked the video but not the content. In the end, I decided not to choose up or down and left a comment explaining what happened instead.
I think that is what's happening with my vaccine article. It's upsetting and I understand that and I do apologize if I hurt anyone's feeling. At the same time, I believe it's something we need to talk about. Therefore, whether I get a thumbs up or down on this article, what matters is that we can exercise free speech and free thought and share our knowledge with each other.
My most recent article, 'Niagara - Mighty and Treacherous', just published yesterday is already close to 160 hits and has 6 likes. After seeing the car in the waters at the edge of the American Falls, it released emotions because I grew up on the Canadian side and called Niagara home for 30+ years. I felt great sadness watching the video of the event but was just totally blown away by the skill, courage and bravery of the US Coast Guard Station Niagara for daring to rescue / retrieve a passenger in a vehicle at the brink of the falls, just 50 yards away with the water freezing cold and rushing right through the car. It was true bravery, plain and simple. I had to write about it because it really hit home, so to speak.
I'm looking forward to writing new articles that even 5 or 10 years from now, people will still find engaging and interesting. Lately, I've been studying NFTs or non-fungible tokens so expect me to write something on that. It's a fascinating topic and I'm seriously thinking of starting my own NFT collection. More on that later, I guess. I'll definitely be keeping you posted.
In the meantime, I should tell you about the kid in the photo. He tried so hard to look good for the 1974 yearbook photo. He even put on a nice shirt but just could not get his collar straight, poor fella. I can say fortunately, that his second set of teeth came out perfect! His picture would make a great NFT though, wouldn't you think?
And one last thing... My articles generated ten times more thumbs ups than downs in the last 30 days. Must mean I'm doing something write!
