Crypto Wallet Woes

By David P. | That Crypto Club | 16 Jan 2020

Welcome to the fray, Publish0x!

I say that both sincerely and with a comic irony that you'll hopefully learn to love as you get to know me. 😏

Welcome, Publish0x, to my wallet woes.

If there is one thing creating a barrier to the much quicker mass adoption of cryptocurrencies, it's the "wallet" situation... I myself have already digressed to some extent-- I learn to roll with the protocols for the different things in which I really want to participate-- but it can be a deal-breaker for even the most enthusiastic crypto-fans who just so happen to be weak on the tech side.

And for those potential converts still sitting on the fence? Well, the idea of multiple wallets and exchanges is going to make their retreat much, much more likely. Right?

Do I have a solution?

No. And I won't say that I do. I feel like wallet tech and integrations have gotten worlds better, but only some kind of total monopoly (or a grand integration master plan) would make every platform and business stick to one particular application.

My Crypto Wallet Woes!

I'm confusing myself just thinking about it!

So to borrow the popular credit card commercial tagline, I ask:
"What's in your wallets?"Β

I opened with a warm welcome to Publish0x, so I'll tell you that I opted for the recommended MyCrypto integration... I set it up to work with my MetaMask account, and now I can interact with the Ethereum blockchain directly. Minimal hassle.

Note: for my first BAT withdrawal, I had it set up to go to COINBASE. This works fine for both Basic Attention Tokens and Dai, but not for the other two currencies on Publish0x... so I quickly switched over to MyCrypto.

Having said that, I still hold COINBASE dear to my heart... they have their paid crypto tutorials-- which are a quick and fun way to make a few bucks-- and they have the lowest buy prices around. They have been in my tool belt since the beginning! If you're not already there, use one of my links, purchase $100 worth of crypto and you'll get another $10 free.

Coinbase and Ledger are my two recommendations.

There's plenty of chatter here on Publish0x about the Brave browser too, so I should include the Uphold wallet in this discussion. I'm not a big fan of it, to be honest... we have no choice if we want to use the Brave browser, of course, but it's expensive to withdraw your BAT earnings. Bummer.

And I should say that the best wallet you can have is a "cold" or "offine" one... I personally love and recommend LEDGER. This is the most secure way to hold crypto, period. So if you have enough to worry about, get one now!Β

How's that for a nutshell?

And it really is just a limited snapshot of what most of us have going on... as much as we've all become accustomed to it, we must admit that it can seem daunting to people just getting started.

The more popular cryptocurrencies become, the more I cringe at the thought of newbies and neophytes learning about all these convoluted protocols!

So What's Your Story?

Which wallet did you choose to connect here at Publish0x? Why? How is it working out for you?

Any other thoughts on the subject? Do you agree or disagree with me about the state of crypto protocols and adoption? Let me know in the comments. Thanks so much for letting me vent.
