The 2017 Commisoners Triphy or World Series trophy is still shrouded in controversy. Being a Houston native though and at the time being at Texas A&M that team was so much more than willing it all.
August 25 life in Houston and the Texas Gulf Coast changed forever. It changed much like the Hurricane of 1900 did (they did not name hurricanes during that time). Not only was it the rainiest tropical hurricane ever in the US but it tied Hurricane Katrina for the costliest at $125 billion dollars. During this time and the aftermath The Houston Astro’s were forced to play their home games in Tampa Bay and had most games on the home.
Houston was devastated by flooding and the Astros were the team that rallied a town. AJ Hinch made a memorable speech once they returned, and even when temporary at home in Tampa Bay their ownership and stadium staff did what they could for the team and the City.
This team became a uniting force and the heart of a broken beaten down city. No matter what people say this team meant more to a city than any other team no matter the time period. The team went out into the streets and the streets of Houston loved them back. I know people might still scream and moan about how the investigation went but when a city is in ruins sports and a thriving team is something that helped Houston out and helped unite us all.
