Washington Diaries Part 2

By Cje95 | Texas Boy in a DC World | 16 Jan 2021

First I am just going to bullet point the latest DC news before talking more about it below...

  • We now have 25,000 National Guard Troops in DC
  • Virginia man arrested at Capitol Hill check point with 2 pistols and 500 hundred rounds of ammunition
  • Police officers are turning in fellow officers who participated in the riots breaking the "Blue Wall of Silence"
  • I personally witnessed Homeland Security cars and SUV's
  • Doordash has stopped service
  • USPS removing some mailboxes

The amount of troops is increasing at a crazy rate. They seem to really have no idea how many they need but with the area being as large as it is (the National Mall is roughly 2 miles long) I can see why a lot of personal is needed but this this is wayyy more. I assume they will be helping with the closure of 4 bridges between DC and Virginia but there has been no announcement of that.

The Virginia individual was lets be honest a complete and utter idiot. The individual attempted to pass though the security check point with FAKE credentials. It just goes to show you the true lack of thought some people have. A voice of reason well really a couple of them need to come forward from both sides and speak loudly and clearly to all to get it together this is just embarrassing.

The police officers turning in fellow officers well its a great thing. While I understand brotherhood and unity what was done deserves the most severe punishment that can happen. From what I have found 18 officers nationwide have either been fired or resigned due to participation which makes sense. If you break the law and are a law officer I am not sure how you keep any public trust at all. Today, for the first time ever, I saw Homeland Security vehicles out and about. This was a crazy development because as of now I am outside the current lockdown zone.

More and more business and services are closing down. Doordash was the most recent one I have come across. My roommate tried to order some food last night and was then informed at the end that service to Washington, DC have been suspended. The United States Postal Service continues to remove some of the mailboxes that are either within the lockdown zone or near important buildings as a preventative measure. Further they have said that services may be shut down depending on the climate and if they have the ability to. Each day you see more and more business boarding up their windows in fear of the rioting that could transpire and its hard not to agree with them. I could not imagine my hard work and time being ruined by a one time event.

While DC continues to represent either a military base or a scene from a dystopian science fiction novel I know we can get through this tough time together. I hope everyone is staying safe during this time.
