Summary
A short call where couple of important happenings were discussed; AmpleForth proposal voting, Eth Lisbon, Eth Portland, Charlie Shrem podcast, deploying Tellor X on Rinkeby and future schedule. In the second question, future users of the oracle were discussed, those who have already contacted the team with interest.
Whole discussion
Nick: Hey everyone! Welcome Tellor community call, October 26th, 2021. Thanks everyone for joining. So, should be a quick call, but lots to go over. First, just before we get into it, the big news is, starting today at 2PM, so in a few hours, you can vote on the AmpleForth proposal. So, if you are a Forth holder, you can vote to add Tellor as an oracle. You guys can go look at the proposal. Basically, they use ChainLink in their own centralized oracle and they’re looking to add Tellor as a third. You can see we’ve been pushing good values on chain for a while. Worked through a few hiccups and it’s running great. The proposal looks super strong, I mean adding, they have basically two centralized oracles and you’re adding a third, so you can have a median, not an average. It’s like it should be like a no-brainer for their community. We’re obviously working through some, getting convincing them, that it makes sense. So, go out there even if you don’t hold some Forth to show your support.
Mike: And just to clarify, this one is just a temperature check, it’s a non-binding vote and then next Monday, roughly the plan is to then kick off a binding vote. You’ll have a chance to involve yourself if you don’t have Forth tokens.
Nick: The difference is, the team and I think a few people hold enough to get it through, so they know that they could probably pass whatever they wanted, they’re just staying out of the snapshot vote and making sure it’s something the community wants. So, this is also their first decentralized governance proposal, so they threw away the admin key and they’re actually going through votes. Even if they do know a lot of people who hold a lot of tokens, it’s still a huge step for their community in the right direction and it’s awesome to be a part of it. It’s huge if you can be that first milestone for them and it’s a big milestone for us. It’ll be our biggest implementation, it’ll be cool and then yeah, definitely go vote. If you guys need instructions on how to do it, I’m thinking maybe tomorrow, maybe I’ll vote tomorrow on the community call or I’ll record me voting
Mike: Or maybe we should all vote at 2PM today, that way we can start it off with a bunch of, well
Nick: I don’t know if it’s 2PM our time, might be Pacific.
Mike: You’re going to be travelling to Portland.
Nick: Portland, but that’s a different topic, but yeah, we’ll record something of us voting and show you guys how to do it. At least maybe tomorrow on our dev call or something else I can just quickly record it as a walkthrough. It’s clicking a button. We could make a five second video, we’re going to vote and done. It’ll be good, but yeah, that also brings, thank you for mentioning it, Ryan and I will be going to Portland, coming up, so if you’re going to be there for EthPortland, hit us up. But Ryan is now a world traveler, him and Brenda just got back from Portland, you guys want to give us a quick synopsis?
Brenda: Lisbon.
Nick: Oh Lisbon.
Mike: What did you say?
Nick: Portland...
Ryan: I think I made that same mistake earlier too. Portland, Portugal...
Mike: Portland Portugal... Yeah, so how was the trip?
Brenda: It was a lot of fun; we made a lot of connections. It was a hackathon, and surprisingly it was packed. They rented a venue with five floors and a bunch of rooms for people to hack on and it was surprisingly, at least because it was such a last-minute event or it felt like it was, but all of the rooms were packed everywhere. At some point I had to, I crashed somebody’s room because I literally just needed a chair to review a PR. It was great, it was full of people, everybody was building, we learned a lot, I feel there’s two main reasons or two of the biggest things that I get out of hackathons or events, conferences; the main one is definitely marketing and putting Tellor out there and branding, but then the second thing, it’s also doing some market research and figuring out what people and where the space is going. Aside from that obviously we talked to a lot of people, we try and talk about Tellor to too many people. Just trying to make sure that they can recognize our brand as much as they do others. We had contact with a lot of our partners, I met with Liquity again, with their CTO, this time instead of their CEO. I didn’t see anybody from Ample, but anyway we talked to a lot of other people and we had some pretty good conversations that within the next few weeks we should be scheduling some calls.
Nick: It’s nice.
Ryan: I think too, like comparatively to ECC it felt more intimate, like I know she said it was packed but it was in a smaller venue. It was beautiful venue like some of the ceilings were just like this thing, was not painted in the last 500 years but it felt like a really good place to be. It was obviously very building focus, it was a hackathon, but just like you know Ethereum foundation was one of the people that put it together, so you just saw a lot of those people around. Just felt like you were in good company. A lot of really smart people and I thought it was cool. You know Tellor was a nice, we were all wearing our shirts, both wearing our shirts each day and we definitely got some good eyesight.
Nick: Was Vitalik there?
Ryan: No, I didn’t see him
Brenda: But apparently a lot of the people from Berlin moved to Lisbon, so Berlin used to be a big hub for crypto and a lot of them are there now. So that’s one of the reasons that even though it was sort of last minute it actually had a really good turnout, but yeah, anyway.
Nick: Like Portugal’s, I hear it like a lot in libertarian circles that Portugal is a good place to move.
Ryan: Yeah, they have zero, there’s no tax on cryptocurrency. Right now. I think they just haven’t made any decisions on it but it’s enough to make people go. I mean the weather was perfect, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, it was not humid at all, it was just perfect, so definitely enticing.
Brenda: And they have like water, I don’t know what goes through there but there’s water very nearby, and then there’s a lot of mountains or a lot of hills.
Ryan: Yeah, it’s very hilly, it’s called the city of seven hills.
Mike: Wow, romantic.
Nick: Very cool.
Mike: Well, thanks for representing Tellor so well out there, it sounds like you guys had a great time. Other things, how was Shrem? How was your experience?
Nick: Oh yeah, it was on the Charlie Shrem podcast yesterday, if you guys listened, it was live, it’s like a half hour, but we touched on so many different topics that we didn’t really get too deep into them. It was really good; he was super nice. He’s actually coming to Baltimore in a few weeks so we’re going to try and get together.
Mike: He’s in New York?
Nick: No, he’s actually between Tampa and Fort Myers down there South Florida. So probably a few hours away from you Ryan, but yeah, it’ll be, if I go down, I’ll go visit him. But yeah, he was super nice, super cool. It was a great conversation, we touched a little bit on Tellor’s history, what Tellor does, decentralization in general. Would love to get into it more.
Mike: Yeah, and good job and that was one of the more high-profile podcasts we’ve been on, or you’ve been.
Nick: Yeah, I had no idea it would be a video, that was weird.
Mike: He just showed up in his pj’s, that’s on brand.
Nick: Where he was like we’re, it’s a video now and we’re like man, when did you switch the videos? But it turned out really well.
Mike: Well, he had his old setup, he had crazy purple lights and the microphone there, I don’t know a little bit hard to compete with.
Nick: It’s okay, but there’s that. Tellor X is going well, we’re testing on Rinkeby, if you guys want to test out let us know, reach out, because we’ll probably next week or something, end of next week I’m guessing we’ll kick off a vote on the official Rinkeby contract. So, then we can go through the full upgrade process and then probably in two weeks the official Rinkeby will be up, but we already have one up on Rinkeby, if you want to just start testing out your miners.
Mike: Reporters.
Nick: So, that’s like the timeline, and then after the orders, after the official Rinkeby ones up for a week or two, then we’ll kick off the real one and go from there. So, timelines are, things are coming along but we have, I’m telling you guys we have, I’m so excited and ready to get this thing off because so many people are reaching out. Just the ability of us to get Tellor with any type of data, and then basically as soon as we’re done getting Tellor X on mainnet, we’re putting it on every other chain we can. And the ability to do that, and like so many people are reaching out and it’s super exciting because they’ll reach out and they’re like oracles can’t do this. Can you do this? And we’re like yeah, we built so we can do whatever that we want and they’re like that’s exactly, that’s awesome and so super excited.
Mike: That’s the new slogan on the website: “We can do whatever the hell we want”.
Nick: So, it’s going to be great.
Mike: But I can’t top that with anything else.
Nick: I think that’s cool, any questions?
Ryan: Yeah.
Question1: Out of 20 LAKH, not sure what that word is, total supply, avarage, 18 LAKH has been supplied, but still why is the rate not increasing? We bought for 90 and is still on hold. Please send your roadmap.
Nick: We’re not LAKH.
Ryan: Yeah, maybe that’s the token. Okay, wrong! Question.
Question2: Upcoming integrations is the other one.
Nick: I mean the Ample one’s. We’re all focused on, then we’re talking with Reflex, there’s, we’ve been talking with them, they’ve been a little public about it. That’s probably end of Q4. They move kind of slowly beginning of Q1 for a couple of pieces of data that they need for their contracts. And then we’re working with Ricochet and Komodo over on Polygon. We’re looking to get Tellor X launched over there for them asap. Yeah, so those are like the really near-term ones, that we can kind of talk about, but yeah, it’s coming up, it’s moving.
Ryan: Cool.
Nick: Awesome. Thanks everyone for joining, definitely reach out if you guys have any questions, and looking forward to talking to you guys next week. Cya.
Spuddy: Bye.
