Splinterlands - Weekly Battle Challenge, Ant Miners

Splinterlands Weekly Battle Challenges - Another week, Another Challenge so here's my entry....

First things first, feel free to just go to their website directly but if Splinterlands interests you I'd be very happy if you joined up with my referral link:

Antminers - Not to be mistaken with the Asic AntMiner, the Ant Miners in Splinterlands are a low mana card (so easy to fit into any team) that start off with the ability Scavenge.  With no armor and only two life they are very squishy but if you can get a few kills on the board their health can balloon up and they can be a useful backup tank (speedbump...). So to the challenge:

The Battle

This battle had a cap of 28 with any splinter allowed except Dragons. No Neutral cards were allowed.  Since this is the Ant Miner challenge the choice of splinter was obvious - Fire!

Summoner - For Fire this is always a tough choice Malric for the plus one melee or Pyre for the plus one speed.  As this was a higher mana battle and since Ant Miners are melee I decided to risk going for Malric for the extra melee attack.

Living Lava at the front - it was this or Cerberus.  I normally run Cerberus for fire battles under 18 mana as he is a great tank and not too costly.  Since this was a higher mana battle and I'm running Malric, Living Lava is the better choice though as it can do some big damage and is a great tank.

Fineas Rage in second slot - for the obvious reason that he has the Reach ability, is melee so benefits from Malric and has quite high health so is a backup tank.

Ant Miners next as a backup third tank (if they survive long enough.  As a bonus they also benefit from Malric too).

Serpentine Spy because he benefits from Malric, is fast and does a lot of damage.  As long as the opposition isn't running a faster opportunity card he should get at least one shot in and will probably kill on that shot.

Efreet Elder in last slot because of last stand.  It can be a risk putting him in last slot in longer battles as he can die quite quickly if the opposition has a lot of sneak attack power. Notwithstanding that if he is the last man standing he can turn a battle in your favour very quickly.

My opposition went with Fire too - Fire is a popular choice indeed!

Summoner - Pyre - For the plus one speed of course.  This could be an issue as he could take out my spy before he even gets a chance to attack!

Living Lava in front for tankiness of course.

Goblin Shaman in second slot as a backup tank and for the minus one health the opposition (me, ouch!!)

Fire Elemental and Pixies in third and fourth slot respectively - strong ranged damage for both and Fire Elemental also has the blast ability.  Dangerous attackers but quite squishy!

Efreet Elder in last slot, same as me and probably for the same reason!

A bonus for me in this battle - they are not running Serpentine Spy so mine should last a while and do some big damage!

And on to the battle:

Turn One:  Thanks to Pyre he gets the jump on my team.  Pixies and Fire Elemental go first but as Living Lava has shield their attack is reduced on him.  Fineas chips at their Living Lava while our respective Efreet Eldars trade magic shots at our respective Lava tanks.  My Serpentine Spy lines up his Pixie and doesn't miss taking him out.

Turn Two:  Fire Elemental goes first reducing my Living Lava to one health, His Efreet Elder then finishes the job.  Fineas and Eldar do the same to his Lava.  Serpentine Spy takes our the Fire Elemental.  My Ant Miners now have three life.  Fineas has five life.  The opposition only has the Goblin Shaman and the Efreet Elder remaining.  This battle is all but over as my Efreet Eldar will match up against his and I have Fineas, and Living Lava not to mention the Ant Miners to back my Elder up.

Turn Three: Fineas and my Elder take out the Goblin Shaman.  Ant Miners now have six life.  Last Stand triggers for their Elder and he does two damage to Fineas.  His Eldar has nine life at the end of the turn but has no chance as even if he gets to my Elder, last stand will trigger and with their Elder damaged already mine would surely win.

Turn Four and Five: We just trade hits and their Efreet Elder goes down as planned.  Fineas ends up with one life but backup tank Ant Miners end up with seven life so I had plenty of tank power left to allow my spy and elder to keep on working if that was required.

So that's another win for me - a mirror match but melee power won over speed this time.  It may have been different if they opposition had run Serpentine Spy which could have taken out my spy and ant miners early but that didn't happen so I'll take the win!

And that's a wrap, Challenge Done, Battle Won!  Another easy win this !
