There are laws protecting your privacy. Especially your medical records. For example, in the USA, there is HIPAA. I'm pretty sure even outside the USA, there are similar acts protecting your privacy. Yesterday, after an incedent I checked with my country's laws and found out we have a similar act protecting sensitive medical information. Here's what happened yesterday.
I went to a routine check-up with one of my Doctors. The only difference was I chose a different channeling center because it has air conditioning for everyone, though it costed little bit more. Anyway, right after I left the doctor's office and was walking down the hallway, a woman physically blocked my path and asked, "did Doctor ask you for Blood tests?" Even though I didn't have to answer to a complete stranger, being a human, I naturally said no. She asked the question again, and I clearly said no for the second time. To tell you about the audacity of this woman, she just snatched my medical record book out of my hand and casually went through it like it was her own book. I felt like violated. I should've made a scene, but I realised it only makes me the bad person, and I might get kicked out of the facility, never to have business with them again.
Judging by her clothes, she was clearly a lab person. Though some people might find having a lab in the same channel center a convenience, I have a different view. I don't use just any Labs for my tests. I have other trusted labs near me that I use. That woman had no right to snatch my records and violate my privacy. I gave no consent to her to check my records. I believe she was just desperate for coustomers. But that doesn't make her invasive act justified. It's a huge ethical misconduct, to say the least. And can be punished under the law for robbery and privacy invasion.
I knew about some laws and wasn't sure if it was a crime or not. Later, I found out about those laws and wanted to file a formal complaint with the channel center's complaint department. But I didn't want to make someone get fired. Because of that, I forgave her for this time, but if it happens again, I'm at least going to verbally complain about her to a senior officer. It is okay to do that, right guys? How would you have handled a situation like this? Start a conversation in the comments below. Thanks for taking your time to read my complaint.
