Some manufacturers don't care about standards anymore. here's why I say that. As you know, my computer power cable went up in smoke. so I had to buy a new one. Yesterday, I went to a computer shop near me and bought a new power cable that was the same brand and same price as my burned power cable.
But to my surprise, the new cable wasn't long enough. They had completely removed a foot length of the cable. The new cable was identical to my old one, except they cut off a foot length in wire to cut costs(I assume). I'm sure some genius said to the boss "Boss, let's remove a foot length from the new power cables and make more cables from the bulk wire." And the boss said yes because he wants to make more money. Instead, the boss should've said "no, you idiot, we have standards and we must follow them. We need at least a 5-foot cable for the computer power cable."
I mean they should've increased the price for the same standard cable. but, instead, they chose to make a false claim by showing their product is cheaper, but secretly a foot of cable is missing. Can't they at least add a tag with the length of the cable on it? Only thing I can do is spend more of my time and more money to go get a new cable. This time I'm bringing my old cable with me to measure the cable I'm going to buy. Governments and importers need to make standards and do routine checks of the products to see if manufacturers follow the standards.
