We've all seen it in movies, games and books. We know the potential of AI. Of course, I'm talking about the good outcome. So, is it wrong to expect the bare minimum things we've seen in the media from our current AI models?
Current AI is better at being a yes-man than doing certain tasks. I asked for some channel recommendations on YouTube. But the only things it provided me were the exact opposite of what I asked for. I tried to find English-speaking videos on certain countries. I even gave it an example. The only thing it did was glorify my recommendation as the golden standard for such content and gave me native language speaking channels. It's not that I don't like other languages. It's just that I can't understand most of the ones I want to watch. So to fully enjoy videos, I expect the English language to be spoken just like most of you would.
Modern AI is very good at pretending things. And that makes me sick. If you don't know something or can't perform certain tasks, just say so. Just admit you can't do it yet. That's way better than hallucinating information that is not true at all. Developers need to change these behaviors asap.
One thing is for sure, though. We are not even close to AI systems described in SciFi books and shows. Most current models are just glorified search engines. So, those paid ads promoting out-of-this-world AI software must be fake. Be careful. That being said, feel free to join the conversation in the comments below. Thank you very much for reading and I will see you in my next article.
