The NFL & Kaepernick: They Heard But Didn't Listen

A pre-game camera focused on Kap because he was sitting on the bench during the National Anthem.  Something he had done prior to that camera being on him instead of the pre-game activities.  Post game he was asked why he sat and he explained how a young black male was killed by San Francisco officers and he sat to protest social injustice in America.  Shortly after, he was advised by former NFL long snapper and military veteran Nate Boyer to take a knee so it wouldn't appear disrespectful.  Thus began the debate of kneeling disrespecting the flag while the bigger issue of social injustice became a sidenote.  There were more questions and backlash towards Kap than there were questions to Boyer about his suggestion.  Despite Kaepernick's efforts to be clear about his stance, it was ignored and led to Kap being ousted from the league as if his going away meant that social injustice would.   Fast forward time to now and the exact stance/knee he took to bring awareness, conversation, and social change became the knee of a public officer sworn to protect people taking the life of another human being/a Black man yet again.  It's not to say the NFL is to blame for the many incidents that have occurred while it suppressed it's players having a voice about these things, but it is to say that they lent a deaf ear and turned a blind eye on it's players about the issues that effect them on a social/racial level.  We've all seen the NFL offer an apology for not listening to it's players, but they should specify as well.  I appreciate the acknowledgement and willingness to play a part in positive change and hopefully they continue to do so now and in the times ahead.
