NFL: QB's On The Hotseat Pt. 1 (Fields, Z.Wilson, Tannehill, Russell Wilson)

Going into week 3 I have my eyes on four QB's in particular who I think it's make or break time and here they are:

Chicago Bears: Justin fields

You pretty much have to go back to Sid Luckman in Bears history to find the last time they were truly stable at the QB position and that was many many moons ago. Hence the hopes and pressure riding on the shoulders of Justin Fields in year number three as the franchise QB. His first year under then head coach Matt Nagy showed flashes of his potential, but there were also times where it didn't go well and it was hard to tell if it was the plays being called or the player having trouble executing the plays. Intro new head coach Matt Eberflus for year 2 and the offense ran wild with Fields leading the charge, but there were still high hopes of a larger leap for him despite the Bears only winning 3 games total for the season.  Year 3 intro DJ Moore in a trade with the Panthers and a complete overhaul on defense and the Bears are somehow 0-2.  Fields has often looked lost and indecisive in the pocket and looks very hesitant to use his legs when the pocket is breaking down or even when he may have not seen the open receiver, but he see's the opening in front of him to gain positive yardage by running.  In short he looks more like year 1 than year 2 & that's something that he must get turned around for game 3 or the Bears may consider hunting for a QB in the draft & the fans may start being a little more vocal about his performance.  The NFL moves on fast nowdays from players especially when they are higher draft picks as Fields was. Development time is shorter for higher draft picks at the QB position especially and it seems some teams will tank to move on and up the draft board without shame these days.  This week the Bears have the championship Kansas City Chiefs who didn't look good week 1, but got back their two key players on both sides of the ball so the odds will be heavily stacked against the Bears and I'm sure many will be calling it a blowout.  However, if Justin Fields has ever needed a statement game........this is the one and though it's only game 3 of a long season, this game holds a lot of weight and it's on the road to make things even tougher.  At the same time, the Bears have to let Justin be the electric player that he is and focus on utilizing his skillset similar to last year along with using play action to take deep shots down the field.  All in all it's up to Justin Fields to lead the Bears out of hibernation and into the hunt.

New York Jets: Zack Wilson

Zack Wilson was the number 2 overall pick in the same draft as Justin Fields(11th) and he too came in with a lot on his shoulders with being drafted so high and being drafted by the Jets who you'd also have to go back in time to the great "Broadway" Joe Namath to understand how long it's been since the Jets have been stable at the QB position.  Year one expectations were high, but it didn't go as well for Wilson and year two saw a more developed Jets defense keep the Jets in almost every game last year.  The Jets went and drafted themselves a playmaker on offense and defense and the addition of Garret Wilson was expected to make for a dynamic duo, but that didn't pan out to progress for the 2nd year QB.  Intro Aaron Rodgers, a new offensive coordinator, a couple of Rodgers' favorite targets from Green Bay and Dalvin Cook from the Vikings to tag team up with the young sensation Breece Hall.  The Jets went all in and it appeared Wilson could be on the way out after the season, but in game 1 of the season on MNF Rodgers goes down with an ACL injury and Wilson stepped in to lead a gritty win under the lights of primetime.  Week 2 was all downhill as Wilson, like Fields seemed lost, indecisive and just not seeing the field in which he later spoke to that fact.  Week 3 doesn't get any easier for Wilson as he'll be facing a division opponent in the Patriots who'll be looking to rebound after a close loss last week.  Wilson has to have a serious bounce back game or the Jets may be looking to trade him away before the deadline or possibly look to bring a certain veteran out of retirement who could possibly consider it after looking at the potential of this Jets offense because I feel they are just a QB away from being a very serious contender or a SB winner. There's some light speculation that Rodgers could be back for the playoffs and there's a real chance the Jets could still make a run there, but this game is THE game where Wilson plays solid or the Jets fans who are a very passionate fan base go cold on Wilson and make the choice for the front office to move on from him and call for a trade to be made at the position.
