NBA: Durant Trade Request & Best Move Pt. 1

NBA: Durant Trade Request & Best Move Pt. 1

The NBA offseason took an unexpected turn with Keven Durant asking for a trade from the Brooklyn Nets not long after Kyrie Irving agreed to a new contract and that opened a can full of worms in the sports world.  Durant even specified the teams he would like to be traded to with the top two being the Heat or Suns, but as time has gone on it still remains to be seen if the Nets will even grant a trade request.  There's been a ton of speculation, but what comes out of this remains to be seen until of course there's an announcement.  In the meantime I'm sure there's a lot of teams that are probably wishing they would've known sooner to wait a little longer before making the roster moves that they did.  Nevertheless, Durant will be the hottest topic until something or nothing happens.  One team that we do know isn't vying for Durant's services according to media reports is the Warriors and if that is indeed true then we won't be seeing a 2nd time around reunion happening there.  I honestly don't see a scenario where Durant get's to go to either of his choices unless a 3rd team gets involved and has a highly attractive offer.  I will say this in all speculation and this would be a monumental move by a monumental franchise if the Lakers were to offer Westbrook and Davis in a package deal with draft picks and player swaps in a deal for Durant since the talks on Kyrie have seemed to stall for the moment at least.  That could also fill the need for a 3rd team to get involved if the Nets for some reason decide they are willing to also move off of Kyrie and do a partial rebuild via free agency this year and next year.  Just thought I'd throw that one out there to keep the wheels turning on different scenarios that could play into Durant actually being traded.

In a move that's gone under the radar for the most part even before the Durant announcement I think the Bulls made a significant move in acquiring Andre Drummond in free agency.  The Bulls were rumored to be in hot pursuit of Rudy Gobert for a moment, but he ended up with the Timberwolves in a move that I think was the best move for both teams.  The Bulls got the center they need in Drummond for the short term with a presence in the lane and a body to challenge Giannis when he comes downhill in the paint.  Drummond is also a very capable scorer more than Gobert in my opinion at least.  Gobert fills a need also for the Timberwolves with his length, up and down the court ability, top k notch defense and rebounding ability which will give Kat the option to move around the court from corner to corner and start more plays at the top of the key.  They could be sort of like the new Twin Towers version of Robinson and Duncan so that's one I'm excited to see definitely.  The Bulls with Levine, Derozan and Ball leading the way should be even more challenging for teams with the addition of Drummond overall and of all the team in the East will provide a very big challenge for the Bucks in the coming season and playoffs.
