Bitcoin is it's own ecosystem in many ways. Lightening network being something in addition to make those day to day transactions faster. Will it hold up to the test. Will their be any flaws on the horizon, like errors or blockchain conundrums? This will depend on the security of the software added. If it is a layer on top of the current system then the security should be and remain robust. Hopefully no Zerodays in the software used to develop such technologies but how can we know for sure unless we are some kind of cyberpunk super genius that knows all coding ever. Even then might not be possible to know all code as it is with each new labyrinth it take a while to learn what the labyrinth is and all the interconnection paths and how they relate to each other.
As crypto's of all kind grow in popularity people want their networks to remain secure and growing. The growth can be additional token's like polkadot's para-chaining that is going on currently. Also swaps in general instead of staking can be a way to expand upon a current holding, why? because as a new network grows expands and develops its own eco-system so does the price correlate with this expansion in many cases especially if it is a fork of a popular coin like Ethereum.
So like the realm of reality we have in the awakened world a virtual crypto system can be optimized coded to operate most efficiently. I.E looking after your garden with pond, grass, trees and plant's. Does the grass need cutting, does the plants need watering etc. It is a fascinating phenomenon I find that anyone could develop thier own coin and ecosystem to maintain whether it will stick around and be popular, well it may stick around but will anyone take notice of what work your doing? You may get lucky but if not it would be purely for your own satisfaction and sense of achievement in knowing that you can develop an altcoin that operates like the big coins do.
Peace, love, joy and Happiness
