Hello everyone.
Yesterday was spent in Lexington, Kentucky at a Fish Club Auction. At least that was the reason I went there. The day started out normal for me. I woke up and got ready. After I got ready, the internet went off. It did storm here Friday night. I would learn during the drive that a tornado had hit in Somerset which is about 10 minutes away. Since the internet was off, the TV was technically off as I watch Amazon Prime using the internet. Because of that I got on the road a bit earlier than I had planned.
After getting to Lexington and finding the Auction location, I scouted out where I would go after the Auction concluded. I wanted to go to JoAnn Fabrics and check it out since it was liquidating. I also wanted to check out Hobby Town. I did NOT have directions to Hobby Town. The Auction went well enough as I won 5 lots. I was looking for 2 types of fish. Medaka and Hillstream Loaches. The only Medaka available was 1 bag of 6 mixed Medaka. That meant no Medaka for me as I'm looking for a single type. Doesn't matter which type, I just want one that will breed true. As for the Hillstream Loaches, there weren't any. That meant I was concentrating on buying plants.
About 20 minutes before the start, I had looked at the table that had the bags of fish and plants. That is how I knew that Saturday was going to be a plant day for me. This was the first large Fish Club Auction I had attended. I signed up as a bidder and got my number. 102. I must say it was well ran and well attended. Of the 5 lots I won, one of them was "contested". It was a lot that had 4 plants that were grouped together. Obviously, I won the bed on it at $11. I was willing to go as high as $20. I valued the plants differently than most of the bidders. I ended up only spending $21 in total. It was a fun day. The plants are currently going through reverse respiration. In an hour, they will be given light and air. This helps to remove snails and snail eggs as well as fungi.
After the auction, I went to JoAnn's. It had been hit hard. Everything I was looking for had already been bought. It made sense to me the more I thought about it. They had been going out of business for over 2 months. I'm going to be getting into scale modeling and was going to buy some items related to airbrushing. Alas the items were nowhere to be seen. At this point, I decided to go to Hobby Town. Unfortunately, I never found it and proceeded to waste about 30 minutes. Luckily, I was able to get on a road that was on my directions. I'm old school and print out my directions. My cell phone sucks except when home. Therefore, I couldn't just use my phone to find Hobby Town or find the quickest way to I75 South.
When I made it home, I was greeted by no electricity. That meant no internet or TV for me. It did come on about 20 minutes afterwards. I had an inkling that it might be off as I was going to stop at IGA and get a few items to hold me over. IGA was closed due to no electricity. In the dark of a bathroom, I poured the Seltzer on the plants and after laying the lid on top, I shut the door. It would be dark in there for 12 hours of blackout.
I'm very happy with the trip. The plants are something I am slowly getting more into. I will still be on the lookout for those two types of fish. I do only buy what I want. I could have bought a lot of fish if they were in my plans and I had tank space for them. I like to research and be sure I can take care of them before I get any livestock. I could have bought Guppies and Mollies and Platies and Killies and Betta Rubras. Not knowing the water parameters for the Bettas and not really having any space for the rest, is the reason I didn't bid on them.
I did assemble an Eeeyore BrickHeadz from LEGO this week. I have 3 other singles sitting real close to me. I do expect to build them soonish. The plan is to keep doing LEGO along with the scale modeling and the fishkeeping. Those activities should keep me busy. The scale modeling is more of a June/July start as I need to get everything related to airbrushing. I need a compressor as well as an airbrush or two. Some paint as well. I still need to decide if I'm getting a respirator and/or a spray booth. If I get a spray booth, I will need something to "scrub" the exhaust from the spray booth. The only things I have currently are some Tamiya Extra Thin Liquid Cement and 2 Airplane Model Kits I got from Hobby Lobby. I think I will eventually concentrate on cars.
That is going to do it for this weeks ramble. It seemed like a longer one. I'm still hodling. Also glad BTC got and stayed above $100K. Take Care.
