Where to spend DOGE?

How Dogecoin Holders Can Spend DOGE?

By SimpleSwap | SimpleSwap Blog | 2 May 2023

The Cryptocurrency World has already ceased to be associated exclusively with idealistic dreams of programmers – today it is a big part of our life like, for example, the banking system. The speed with which this industry develops is remarkable: just 10 years ago, only few people knew about cryptocurrencies, and now on some online platforms it is already possible to pay with so-called “imaginary money”.

There are even more interesting examples – now you can already pay for products or services with crypto. Yes, the coins that were created as a joke, experiment and entertainment can finally be used with all seriousness. We are specifically talking about Dogecoin – the first "meme" cryptocurrency of the Web3 space.

What is Dogecoin (DOGE)?

Before we discuss places where we can spend DOGE, let’s recall a few facts about this token:

  1. the coin was created in December 2013 by programmers Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer as a joke, and 10 years later it turned into an actively promoted means of payment;
  2. the first "meme" token, was created in order to sarcastically point out the fact that people can give value and popularity to even the most stupid things;
  3. it is distinguished by high transaction speeds (on average, it takes 1 minute to create a block);
  4. its main advantage is low fees for operations;
  5. Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, and Vitalik Buterin, the founder of the Ethereum blockchain, are Dogecoin partners.

Top 7 Companies Accepting Dogecoin

  • Tesla

The love between Elon Musk and DOGE – a story about which songs are sung and legends are made. In 2021, the CEO of Tesla called Dogecoin “the people's crypto” in a tweet. Elon Musk  supports this project in every possible way he can: from wearing a T-shirt with it to replacing the Twitter logo with Dogecoins one. So it’s no surprise that Tesla customers can purchase cars using Dogecoin.

  • Newegg

The largest North American online retailer of electronics and computer equipment has introduced DOGE as a payment method in 2021. In order to do this, the company entered into a partnership agreement with the Bitpay service. The Newegg management decided that Dogecoin would make life easier for its customers. So now we can pay for online purchases using this fast and affordable altcoin.

  • Twitch

A popular platform for online gaming streams. Users can buy a "Turbo membership" here and pay for it with Dogecoin. The benefits of this subscription include the absence of ads, new chat features, expanded storage for streams, and much more. According to Twitch executives, they were attracted to Dogecoin because of its openness and friendliness.

  • airBaltic

Tokens with a funny image of a meme dog can be used for purchasing a plane ticket – isn't this a great achievement of the 21st century? The Latvian airline airBaltic seems to have made someone's childhood dream come true. Of course, this is far from the most popular way to pay for air tickets, but the very fact of its existence already makes you believe in miracles. AirBaltic operates flights to Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland and Scandinavia.

  • Bitrefill

Bitrefill is a service for buying gift cards and prepaid cards that you can use to make purchases on platforms such as Apple, Spotify, Amazon, PlayStation and Xbox game stores, etc. For DOGE tokens, here you can purchase basically any certificate you like: for clothes, products, games, travel, entertainment, pre-orders of unique goods and so on.

  • AMC Cinemas

Large cinema chain AMC has started accepting cryptocurrency payments in November 2021. The pioneers were Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin. Recently Dogecoin has joined them. The COVID-19 quarantine prompted the company to switch to cryptocurrency. At that time, AMC was on the verge of bankruptcy, but it quickly found a way out – the company dived into the crypto industry and expanded its capabilities.

  • sheetz

Sheetz stores were the first to integrate cryptocurrency into offline life. The largest American chain of mini-markets and coffee houses, known throughout the northeast of the United States, announced that from now on its customers can use the popular cryptocurrency for paying, including DOGE. Sheetz made a partnership with the Flexa cryptocurrency payment system. Thanks to the courage of the company's management, Sheetz instantly made people talk about them, thereby attracting a crowd of new clients and cryptocurrency entrepreneurs.

Conclusion

Dogecoin has grown in popularity over the past few years. It has long turned from just a dog meme into a means of payment. Many users consider it the best and prefer it to such market leaders as Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Today many traders hope that this year DOGE will return to its all-time high of $0.73  set back in May 2021. Why? Well, mostly because of Elon Musk. He attracts attention to this altcoin over and over again, causing its price to go up. For example, not so long ago the CEO of Twitter and Tesla tweeted that he offers one million DOGE to anyone who can prove that his family owns an emerald mine. After that DOGE price has immediately increased. Before that, Musk posted a photo of his Shiba Inu dog, Floki, and wrote, "Twitter's new CEO is amazing."

All these actions increase the confidence that Twitter might someday include Dogecoin payments. These suspicions were also reinforced by the fact that Twitter is partnering with eToro to bring cryptocurrency into its platform. If one day DOGE would appear in the Twitter ecosystem, there is no doubt that its price will rise. But for now you can easily spend Dogecoin in places we’ve listed above.
