Tarot Rhymes with Crypto, Sort Of

By EsoterRick | EsoterRick Musings | 23 Sep 2021

Have you ever had a Tarot reading? How about a Tarot reading to assist in your decision making with your crypto holdings? Crazy huh? Over the course of my journey, I have created some traditional Tarot decks as well as some alternate Tarot decks; because of that, those that know me will sometimes ask me to share a reading for them (free of charge, of course). Not too many months ago I was asked to do a reading to help determine the direction a friend of mine should go with her crypto portfolio. For this venture I used my trusty Greek/Roman Coin and Artifact deck to do the reading, utilizing the basic three card reading method. For me, it is important to let the cards and the person interact with the cards and not to try to manipulate them with your own thoughts.

I do not believe there is anything magical per se, about Tarot readings – although I do think they provide a fascinating opportunity for self-discovery for the one being read, and a great opportunity for me to get an insight into the other person’s creative mind. The unconscious mind will almost always search for ways to create meaning – even if it does not appear to be there. Most people respond to an image, for others it might be an event, an object or other trigger item. Tarot readers, fortune tellers, mentalists, all know this and use it to help you - usually part with money or entertain you - but sometimes they are actually personally helpful. There are many who believe there are supernatural forces at work in these kinds of exercises, and who knows, maybe there are. In any case, when humans make meaningful connections with anything, that is magic to me. But I digress, so let’s get this reading underway.

Here is how the cards unfolded.

Cards from My Personal Deck

The first card was Fortuna, the Roman goddess of Fortune, luck, and prosperity – it is a very good card in any situation. This image is taken from an ancient Roman coin, and is in the position to reference the past. My friend has been very fortunate (pun intended) with her crypto currency purchases in the past. When I say fortunate, I mean tens of thousands of dollars fortunate. This card is very fitting, and you can see why someone would see it as a meaningful card. Nothing more needed to be said as it spoke to her.

The second card was an image of a bee on an ancient Greek coin; the card represented the present. In Greek mythology  bees were considered sacred, and there are many stories that included bees being spoken of has having divine intelligence; and the honey they produced was a gift worthy of the gods (very near an ambrosia level). There are multiple stories concerning bees and well worth researching when you have the time that reveal the sacred nature in which these creatures were regarded. What was even more intriguing was that my friend is a holder of the HIVE crypto currency and an avid proponent of the associated ecosystem. I didn’t really know that much about it at the time but the glow on her face appeared so positive that I knew it struck a responsive chord within her. She was elated that the image of her favorite crypto currency was right there in front of her, chosen at random yet so poignant. It was her sign “from above, or beyond,” and  it confirmed that she was holding the right crypto - and that she should continue to hold it. It was part of her Fortune to do so.

The third card was a phoenix, from yet another Roman coin; the position of the card concerns the future. The legendary bird is well known for dying, burning, and then rising again from the ashes. I had no idea where this card was going to lead, and was thinking hard about what associations it might have for her - but she jumped in quickly and exclaimed: “Yeah, I get this, this is our reminder of the volatility of cryptocurrency; it is the history of Bitcoin and others; you think when it goes down so far that it is surely going to be dead - but like the phoenix it rises from the ashes to become strong, even stronger again.” I secretly thanked the powers that be that she did my reading for me – and it rang so true. The images resonated with my friend, she did all the associating, and was very satisfied with her results.

I am not recommending Tarot readings to enhance your cryptocurrency holdings. But it’s not a bad way to go; that is, for you to be able to do some self-reflection and see what your unconscious mind might be leading you towards. Apart from that, good solid research is my recommendation before going into any new crypto adventures. At the end of the day though, I’ll use whatever resources available to make the best decisions.

I hope you found this somewhat entertaining. It intrigues me how people make decisions and discover new ways to understand their journey and establish meaning in their lives. The word “crypto” comes from the Greek, “krupto,” meaning “hidden” or “secret.” Perhaps there are many more hidden layers to this crypto journey which are well worth exploring?

In the meantime, may Fortuna be with you on your crypto journey; knowing that the Death card is as prevalent on this journey as the more fortunate cards. Be careful, be smart, be wise and enjoy the journey thoroughly.
