This is a big cricket. It was hanging out in front of a coffee shop, on the parking lot today. A couple of times it jumped while I was trying to take its picture, once landing on its back and taking a few moments to recover back on to its legs.

As you can see, it has some extremely large antennae. That is one of those funny words that you add an e on the end of it to make it plural. I have no idea what this cricket was doing on a hot paved surface in the middle of summer. It didn't chirp, and it really didn't need to. I knew what it was thinking: "get that camera away from my thorax."
I was all too happy to oblige. It really wasn't bothering me but clearly I was bothering the cricket. I didn't want to do him any harm. It jumped onto the sidewalk and crawled into a drain pipe. I hope that Cricket is doing well and doesn't get too hot on this July scorcher. If you're still reading this, thank you and please be assured that no crickets were harmed in the making of this blog post. Chirp on!
