The Final Phase of the Streaming Takeover

By Rider Fleetwood | Rider Fleetwood | 29 Dec 2024

Streaming platforms have been on the rise for the past couple of decades, but now they’re only real competition is being absorbed by them.

Netflix is one of the largest companies in the world, and they have no intentions of slowing their growth. They are taking on their largest competition, live television. Netflix has been hard at work acquiring contracts with programs like UFC to capture some of the customer base of cable companies. They even hosted the Jake Paul — Mike Tyson fight.

But it might surprise you that Netflix isn’t even the leader in capturing live streaming audiences. Prime video has made deal with the NFL, NHL, and once the NBA’s current broadcasting deal ends, Prime will have a firm grip on the Sports market. Not to mention they’re taking Mr Beast’s youbute content on their platform.

Youtube, too, is eating into cable companies' bottom line with their livestreamimg features and, more importantly, YouTube TV.

Disney has ESPN in their Disney + portfolio. NBC, Paramount, Roku, and others have their own streaming services. Cable’s death is inevitable.

But here’s my concern, when streaming had no competition, they have no incentive to keep their prices low. Youtube TV raised their price 800% recently, and then, we’ll be no better off. Time to start reading books again I suppose.
