Splinterlands Battle Mage Challenge: Slow!

By RealSociology | Retire by 50 | 28 Jul 2024

This week's Battle Mage rule set challenge was Reverse Speed in which the speed scores are reversed: One is the highest speed and 8 (or faster these days) is the slowest!

Reverse Speed general strategy....

You can basically play whatever your best cards are but you MUST avoid anything that buffs speed for your own team or debuffs it for your opponent!

This can be tricky as there's a lot of things to remember.... obviously you have to avoid playing plus speed bonuses, but also any slow cards which slow your opponent down. AND you want to avoid playing cards which gain speed bonuses when hit, such as enrage. You'll probably have to avoid playing some of the better gladiator cards with bloodlust too!

Reverse Speed battle exemplar

The battle below shows a battle featuring the Life Splinter which is generally one of the better ones for this rule set having a lot of excellent but SLOW monsters!

Mana and rulesets:

  • Mana 32
  • Reverse speed ruleset only!

The battle...

  • round 1 - My sneak attack takes out the Dark Astronomer.
  • round 2 - My sneak attack takes out the Strangler and Stalker
  • round 3 - I sneak out the Life Sapper and the Bone Golem tank
  • round 4 - I take out RiftWing!

It's all over and I'm 6/6!

Final battle analysis

I payed very careful attention to the ruleset and played the slowest cards and it paid off, I ONLY missed once and wrought carnage on my opponent....!

SIMPLE AS THAT!

Reverse Speed final thoughts...

The LIFE SPLINTER usually works well!!!

In the summer of 2014, when I turned 41, I set myself the goal of retiring from paid-work by the age of 52. This blog charts my own strategy and progress, and explores different theories of financial independence and 'extreme early retirement'. It also provides the odd tip on how you might also retire early!
