This week's Battle Mage rule set challenge was Rise of the Commons in which only common and rare monsters may be used in battle.
And crucially, legendary summoners may be used!
Rise of the Commons general strategy....
It's really a matter of picking whichever splinter has the best rare and common cards, or put another way the one with which you rely LEAST on yer legs and epics.
So it's probably NOT worth playing dragon. Fire and Water spring to mind as two with some knock out rare and common cards.
It is TOTALLY worth playing epic or leg summoners!
Rise of the Commons battle exemplar
The battle below shows a battle featuring common and monsters but with Yodin BLASTING his way to victory!
Mana and rulesets:
- Mana 38
- ruleset rise of the commons only...
Summoner - Yodin for the blast and other additions!
- Goblin Mech - a decent high mana tank
- Fineas Rage - reach!
- Sperentine Spy - Opportunity and blast
- Spark Pixies - main ranged one
- Flame Elemental - main ranged two
- Xnith Archer - main ranged three.
The battle...
- round 1 - I lost my Mech first, ouch!
- round 2 - but straight off the bat I take out the Shielbearer - byebye! The Time Mage falls shortly after and then the TruthSpeaker immediately after that, thanks to BLAST. And then the next two monsters!
- round 3 - I just have to finish off one final ranged monster and it's all over, I'm 5/6!
Final battle analysis
My opponent chose some good cards and his shields worked well, however taunt in P2 actually worked against him.
In the absence of any decent snipe cards this effectively allowed my first round of ranged attacks to all get in two blast attacks, greatly weakening his tank and P3 monsters.
It was all over by R2 even though I lost the first card!
BLAST was decisive!
Rise of the Commons final thoughts...
Just Yodin it...?!?
