Splinterlands Battle Mage Challenge: Holy Protection

By RealSociology | Retire by 50 | 26 May 2024

This week's Battle Mage rule set challenge was Holy Protection in which every monster gains Divine Shield at the beginning of the battle...

Divine Shield means the first attack on each monster does zero damage!

Holy Protection general strategy....

This is another one of those rulesets that I think you really don't need to pay too much attention to!

Although possibly speed is more important than usual, and it might also be worth thinking about having lots of smaller attacks rather than fewer larger attacks. After all, the bigger the attack the more oomph you are losing to divine shield per attack.

So BLAST may also be useful, with snipe, sneak and a regular frontal attack you could wipe out all of those Divine Shields in round one!

The battle below shows a battle featuring the Fire splinter in a comprehensive victory!

Mana and rulesets:

  • 24 mana
  • Holy Protection only

Summoner - Tsara

  1. zenith Monk - an awesome low mana tank
  2. Scorch Fiend - 0 mana for the low mana battle
  3. Magi of Chaos - high magic damage
  4. Tyndll Striker - massive sneak damage
  5. Dr Blight - awesome buffs for the mana
  6. Chaos Agent - phase against sneak!

The battle...

  • round 1 - I take out my opponent's Ant Miners, nice to see with this ruleset in R1
  • round 2 - I lose my Monk, take out the Scavo Chemist, then lost my Scorch Fiend
  • round 3 - I take out the Radiated Scorcher
  • round 4 - I sneak out the Djin Apprentice
  • round 5 - it's all over and I'm 4/6!

Final battle analysis

I didn't really pay too much attention to the rule set, but I still won!

Poison came in very handy throughout as did my sneak attacks taking out some high damage cards at the back!

My higher health also helped massively, soaking up more damage!

Holy Protection final thoughts...

You can get away with just ignoring it and still win most of the time!

In the summer of 2014, when I turned 41, I set myself the goal of retiring from paid-work by the age of 52. This blog charts my own strategy and progress, and explores different theories of financial independence and 'extreme early retirement'. It also provides the odd tip on how you might also retire early!
