Massive Fire at a Chemical Plant in Northern Illinois

The fire broke out at the chemical plant in Rockton, Illinois, on Monday morning, June 14, 2021. And turn out to be a massive chemical plant fire that destroyed the complete chemical plant.

The city fire department ordered all homes and businesses within a 1-mile radius of the plant to evacuate at all costs. And on Wednesday, Rockton Fire chief Kirk Wilson notified in a press conference that the evacuation order remains in effect despite the contamination.

Dr. Sandra Martell- the public health administrator for Winnebago County, reported that evacuation orders for the surrounding community and the mask-wearing request were made to protect individuals having weak immune systems against a particular matter that can become respirational track irritant.

When the fire crew was busy controlling and suppressing fire, the fire’s black plumes of smoke change into a dark shade of white. And at 5 pm on Tuesday fire crew was able to control and anticipate fire, and Rockton fire Chief Kirk Wilson reported it. And he further said that they have succeeded in containing water runoff from spilling into rock rivers.

And he further included that” the smoke plume has dissipated pretty substantially. So at this point, we have detected no visible runoff into the waterway (that) is just west of Chemotool and to our main waterway called the Rock River.”

Dr. Sandra Martell further advised people at a news conference to avoid contact with any material that falls from the sky as it could be related to the fire and can provide harm if touched with bare hands. She further advised people to keep fire waste falling from the sky away from their household waste. So it will become easy for them to dispose of it properly. And it will help them keep water sourced from underground safe because most of the surrounding communities rely on groundwater.

Environmental Protection Agency alluded an enforcement action against Chemtool to the State Attorney General’s Office over the chemical fire and released pollutants and contaminants into the air.

EPA further asked the company to “provide documentation to the Illinois EPA including the cause of the fire.” And they also ask for “an estimate of the nature and amount of any emissions of sulfuric acid mist, particulate matter, and other air contaminants emitted as a result of the fire.”

The sound of a series of explosions and fires was even heard by residents living 15 miles north of Rockstone. And the reason for concern is that fire at the Rockton ill chemical plant could cause environmental nightmares, as reported by their fire chief. But the fire Chief assured that no toxins had been released in the waterways and water system in Rockton.

The exact cause of the fire is still unknown, but the chemical plant owned by Chemtool Inc. is known to produce greases, lubricants, metalworking fluids, and containers.

How can I help you get rid of molds?
How can I help you get rid of molds?

My genuine desire is to help all people who were exposed to poisonous and toxic molds. Through my own, devastating experience, I quickly discovered that there were not many options for people to cover their medical expenses or improve their home and work conditions affected by mold. Molds are well known for causing enormous adverse health effects like causing asthma, pneumonia, mental illness, digestive disorders, blood pressure, cancer, and death when inhaled in huge amounts.
