EASY doesn't mean Better!

EASY doesn't mean Better!

Have you ever heard that saying: "Easy comes, easy goes"? This is usually a saying used in the context of getting rich quick, which came easily. In this case, when something like this happens, not long after, people end up losing everything they achieved quickly.

A well-known example of the effectiveness of this saying is in relation to lottery winners and players who win a lot of money in big leagues such as major basketball. I remember seeing a documentary once, or a video, I don't remember exactly, but it was mentioned that most winners of giant lottery prizes and players with huge salaries end up losing everything they won shortly afterwards. It's surreal for any "normal" person to think about how someone can lose millions and millions and have nothing left after years.

The reason is simple, what comes easy, goes easy. People who win the lottery and expensive players in the biggest football and basketball leagues, by receiving a large amount of money, end up raising their standard of living to a level "compatible" with the money they received all at once in the case of lottery winners or for the salaries in the case of players. But they forget that if good planning is not done, if there is an unforeseen event with the player such as the end of a contract or an injury, that salary ends, but the costs continue.

And in the case of the lottery winner, every time he spends it is as if he adds a hole in his financial account which, because he does not have a source of income, reduces the amount to a point where the high costs of living become greater than he takes into account. This is a very simple example of how ease is not always the best possible path.

EASY doesn't mean Better!

Taking this concept of ease to today and technology, we arrive at AI. Several experts are selling it as if it were the new great revolution in terms of the advancement of humanity, often betting all their chips on this point, as we see with large investments being made in this area.

As much as AI can help in different areas, such as helping with ideas, creating images, suggestions, creating code, shouldn't we ask ourselves if this is really good? As I mentioned, we are in a period where investments in AI are at the highest level, and as a result, companies are offering these services at less than their cost. A lot was invested in the purchase of video cards that will soon become obsolete, in the construction of large warehouses and energy systems, at one point investors will demand a return on the investment made.

At this point, you could end up being the person who built a great business, which could become unviable if the costs of AI are greater than your gains. If the service provided gets worse and there are more errors, those who have not dedicated themselves to learning and improving in creative and technical areas will become dependent on a tool that will no longer provide answers. Furthermore, we have people increasingly depending on AI for inspiration and to answer questions, if one day this is not available, what will become of these people? It's always interesting to do a "WHAT IF?" exercise, and think about how the easiest doesn't always mean the best. You can use technology but not be dependent on it.
