Some say stopping/pausing is the worst thing you can do; some say taking a break is normal. On one hand, a good writer needs to be consistent, on the other hand, even book authors do not write all the time.
For me and you – it is all about the perspective
Do you want to write and live exclusively from your writings?
Well…the chances, that you will succeed, are extremely slim. They are so small, that you should not even try to live off by just writing.
Then again. Many of today’s famous writers died poor and were only recognized after their death. If you are striving for that – go for it.
Writing is like a hobby
We have already established that going all-in into writing is a bad idea. So, what gives? How can I be a good writer, if I need to write all the time and yet I do not earn enough to survive?
Write when you can. As much as you can. And read. Read as much as you can.
The important thing is to come back. In some cases, after a day, after a week (or in my case after a month).
My main job is currently preventing me to write, but when I do write, I make sure it is enjoyable for me. After all, putting down words is for us (average writers), a hobby, not a job.
If you consider writing as a hobby, you will be a much happier person. You will write for yourself and not for others.
Facts
Nobody is born a good writer. A good writer is self-made. Only after tons of mistakes, readings and writings you will be able to create something meaningful. I hope I can create something meaningful one day. I hope you do too!
Do not give up in the middle. You are nearly there. If you are going to take a break, finish what you started. I discovered that the urge to give up, just because I feel annoyed and helpless, is a sign. Wanting to give up, signals that I am almost there and that all the uncertainty, frustration, and suffering will be resolved if I keep going. To finish this one, then go for a holiday. To finish this article and feel better. To write this sentence. And now this word: word.
Good.
I have made it.
I am back.
