When I came back after a short break from the crypto world I was appalled to see what has been happening. The SEC hasn't slowed its progress of pushing out court cases against the biggest names in crypto space. Some of these are justifiable, like the one I am writing this article on, and others that are putting crypto development back by months or sometimes years. Similar to the recent news that Coinbase is no longer offering Algorand Staking due to a notice put out by the SEC that they may be violating securities laws.
But the topic for this article has a much more sinister tone. In recent days it has been brought to light that a group of celebrities have been promoting $TRX and $BTT on social media without disclosing if they were compensated to do it or how much they were compensated. The mastermind behind the plan though was Justin Sun who has been accused of fraud by purposefully manipulating the prices of $TRX and $BTT.
Justin Sun is the founder of the Tron foundation and The BitTorrent foundation two of the biggest companies in crypto space. His future is uncertain but the celebs have already paid the price, literally. Combined the celebs have had to pay over $400,000 to settle the SEC's charges the biggest being Jake Paul who has to pay more than $100,000.
