What is Farsite and what to look out for

By TrocProcLock | Random Tech News | 27 Apr 2021

I have been doing a lot of reading on this new upcoming game Farsite. It has me really excited. I wanted to share a bit more about the game to give you all more details as to what to expect.

Credits:

Credits are the in game currency. You will need Credits for just about everything. You can get credits a few ways.

What is a Credit you ask? Well it is a layer two token. Meaning basically it's a in game only token. You won't see Credits listed on an exchange. But if you want to cash out of the game you can transfer your Credits into FAR tokens. FAR tokens will be listed on exchanges.

Credits can be burned and will be burned quite regularly. When you refuel your ship the credits used will be burned. When you explore a planet or acquire a sector those credits will be burned. It will keep the supply and demand of Credits pretty good.

There are going to be initially 10,000,000 FAR token minted. Which means that at a 1 FAR token to 1,000 Credit ratio there will be 10 Billion Credits minted. 5 million FAR tokens will be reserved for CEX listing which is interesting.

After the initial creation of FAR tokens the only way new Credits enter the game is with Crates.

Crates:

This is going to be where people sink there money into. Crates are basically the only way to acquire items to use in the game initially. Sure you could get a sector and build building to acquire resources to sell and make your own things but without blueprints you are going to wasting a lot of credits in the game.

Green Crates:

Available only for a limited time and will include Modules, Components, Ammunition and Credits.

Blue Crates:

This is geared towards new players who weren't early players (us). It includes a "powerful" Ship Hull, Module, Components and Credits.

Sea Crate:

Includes a "Seybana Ship Hull" (a ship), Seybana Module and Components. What is interesting is this one does not come with Credits because you can only buy it with Credits.

Ocean Crate:

Seybana Blueprint (used to create Seybana Ship Hull), Seybana ship Hull, 2 Seybana Modules, and Components. Again this one does not come with Credits because you need to buy it with Credits.

Silver Crate:

This Crate is designed for those who want to start a Module creating business and sell the Modules on the market once the game is live.

Includes a Module Blueprint, Ship Hull, Module, Components and Credits.

Gold Crate:

This Crate is designed for those who want to start a Ship building business. It includes a Ship blueprint which you can reuse to create ships and then sell them on the market.

Includes a Ship Blueprint, Ship Hull, Module, Components and Credits

Power Crate: (limited to 1,000 total)

Includes a EPIC Module Blueprint, Legendary Ship hull, 2 Legendary Modules and Credits

Club Crate: (limited to 100 total)

This bad boy includes

Sacura ship Blueprint (1 of 100)

Sacura Ship hull (Legendary)

Module (Legendary)

Sacura Club Key (1 of 100) which grants access to exclusive Stations and services

Credits

What is going to make or break this game is the pricing of the crates and how we can buy them. Are you going to send ETH over to a Farsite wallet and then buy the Crates ingame? Is a Green Crate going to cost $1 or $10. Only time will tell but I hope they get it right.

Sectors:

The way the in game world is made up is as follows:

Constellations are a collection of Stars and Stations.

Stars are a Planetary System. There will be 4-12 Planets to each Star

Planets are where the players can mine resources or build bases.

Sectors are sections of a explored planet that you can buy with Credits to build on.

Sectors are going to be the "land" in this game. You are going to need to buy a plot of land to do anything of real value. You could run missions for people which include things like moving their resources from planet A to Station B and so on. If you played Prospectors.io then this should sound very familiar.

Once you buy a Sector you will get a pre-determined map of your Sector. Each sector is broken up into tiles. You can build a building on 1 tile or mine for resources if that tile has any.

If you have any Blueprints this is where you will build a building that can manufacture that Blueprint into whatever it is. So if it is a Ship Hull blueprint you can collect all the necessary resources and credits and build the Ship Hull. Then you can sell the Ship Hull on the market and rinse and repeat.

In a lot of blockchain games it comes down to who owns the land. Its that way in Alien Worlds (collecting commission), Prospectors (you can only build on your own land), etc etc. So It is going to be a mad rush to get a good sector or a few good sectors.

There will be Asteroids that you can mine for resources even if you don't have a sector.

Blueprints:

Money Makers right here. If you want to have close to passive income as you can have in this game you are going to need blueprints. Blueprints are infinite and never expire. So say you have a blueprint for Rare Mining Laser (I made that up). That BluePrint will say something like you need 100 Iron, 400 Plutonium and 3,000 credits to build this Laser. Once you collect all those resources by either mining for them or buying them on the market you can build that laser. Then you can sell the Laser on the market and start using the Blueprint to make another Laser. rinse and repeat over and over again.

What is interesting though is that you need a sector in order to build from Blueprints. So depending on how much sectors cost it will make or break it. I couldn't not figure out if you can sell Sectors but I would assume you could.

What is nice though, even if you miss the expensive Crates at game launch there will be more Crates with limited Blueprints as more Constellations are introduced. Which also means that the Blueprints at the beginning may get overpowered by later Blueprints. So keep that in mind as well.

Stickers:

This is stupid haha but I have a feeling I will get a few stickers. Stickers are basically just NFT's that you can apply to your ship to literally put a sticker on the outside of you ship. My guess is that most will be worth crap and only the limited special edition ones from promos will be worth something. Either way they will be NFT's to make money on!

Ethereum GAS Fees:

I have some good news folks. Yes this is built on the Ethereum blockchain. But just because you perform a transaction in game doesn't mean you are paying gas fees. All in game transactions are on Layer 2. And Layer 2 is built on Polygon and all fees for it will be covered by the Farsite team. When you want to convert your Credits to FAR Tokens that would include the Ethereum Blockchain Layer 1 and will require a Ethereum Gas Fee.

Digital Wallet:

More good news peeps! When you start the game you will be given a virtual wallet for free to store all your items and such. The Farsite team recommends that you use your own Digital Wallet though that you own the keys too. They specifically called out MetaMask. So what that means is we can just use our MetaMask wallet to play this game and not need some BS 3rd party wallet. I am sure we all have enough of those, so to be able to use a wallet we already have is great. Just make sure you have some ETH in your MetaMask wallet before the game really starts.

There is so much more I could get into with Farsite but I figured this was a good starting off point for everyone. I intend to follow this game like I did and still am with Alien Worlds.
