T-Mobile and Sprint FINALLY merged!

By TrocProcLock | Random Tech News | 1 Apr 2020

So as of today (April 1st) T-Mobile has merged with Sprint! It has been a super long courtship between the two going back years. They tried to merge once before and it failed threw because Softbank (Sprint parent company) wanted more control than T-Mobile was willing to give. Then 2 years ago they started to renegotiate the terms. It worked out in T-Mobiles favors because sine the 1st failed merger and this one T-Mobile, under the leadership of John Legere grew in market share and could dictate the terms of the merger.'

Regardless of what you think of the merger you have to give credit to John Legere for building T-Mobile into what it is today. It is a powerhouse. Sure it doesn't have the network coverage that Verizon has but it will soon. And it definitely will now that it merged with Sprint. Here are the bullet points listed as to what the new T-Mobile will do:

  • The network will have 14 times more capacity in the next six years than T-Mobile alone has today, enabling the New T-Mobile to leapfrog the competition in network capability and experience.
  • Customers will have access to average 5G speeds up to eight times faster than current LTE in just a few years and 15 times faster over the next six years.
  • Within six years, the New T-Mobile will provide 5G to 99% of the U.S. population and average 5G speeds in excess of 100 Mbps to 90% of the U.S. population.
  • New T-Mobile’s business plan is built on covering 90% of rural Americans with average 5G speeds of 50 Mbps, up to two times faster than broadband on average.

Look guys I have been a T-Mobile customer for a long time and before that I was with Sprint. So I am a little biased to be honest. I have wanted T-Mobile to merge with Sprint for so long I can't even remember how long. Sprint was great back in the day but it has slowly been dying. It had great network coverage and speeds but never really upgraded it to make a difference. And Sprint bet on WIMAX for 4G and it did NOT pan out very well. Sprint owns a crap ton of spectrum that T-Mobile is dying to have to bolster it's 5G.

I am trying to not get into all the technical nitty gritty details (I can if you want, let me know), but Sprint is using a CDMA network for 3G. T-Mobile uses GSM. So over the next 3 years Sprint customers who use phones that utilize CDMA will have to move over. In all honesty that shouldn't effect really anyone because if you bought a new phone in the last 2 years your are probably already good to go, and Sprint will stop selling/activating CDMA phones in the next 3 years. So in teh span of 5 years if you buy a pone from Sprint or for Sprint you should be fine.

And I have to mention that a little while ago T-Mobile bought Layer3, which is a digital TV service. And T-Mobile is starting to support/supply/offer in home internet on it's 5G service. So it is planning on becoming the 4th largest internet provider in the US. Guys the New T-Mobile is going to destroy the market in the nest 5 years. They are going to change mobile phone plans and service, TV service, in home internet.
