Ahh, the horror.
The horror of seeing BAT being mined.
It's has always been a dream for a select group of people to mine BAT.
Right now, they are even petitioning for the ability to mine BAT, and Brave has decided to cave in and add the feature to passively mine BAT into the Brave Browser. This feature will soon be seen.
That said, what would be the economic impact of mining BAT?
Here's the entire picture that the greedy people with powerful computers simply are too short sighted to see.
BAT has a rather small number of people using it. This number is large for a product this new, but really small for a product in general. BAT mining will lead to more BAT being pushed into the market at a faster rate than demand increases.
And what do you do when you have excess of something? You throw the rest away.
The equivalent of "throwing the rest away" in the market is a climatic drop in price of BAT.
If everyone and their dog can mine BAT, more people would join the fray, yes. But those people would only be mining BAT to sell on exchanges or to convert to BTC. None of them will be mining it to develop the network.
Problems such as an underpopulated but oversaturated market would arise. These problems will cause the price of BAT to drop climatically, and might even be the end of the token.
Equally, mining BAT would lead to those with ASIC devices getting all the loot. The last thing we want is a BAT whale.
I have a few ASIC devices, and I know for certain that my greed would make me use all of them to mine BAT if the feature is enabled. This would defeat the whole purpose of mining BAT in the first place.
Needless to say, there would be a monopoly among those with larger pockets to afford ASIC devices. Those using their 2015 MacBooks and expecting a positive result will be left on a sour note.
So, we shouldn't be given that privilege. Those that want it are greedy and want to become whales for free.
Let's not mine BAT.
