In a bid to see why many people haven't switched to Brave yet, I decided to download a few privacy focused browsers and use them for a week, while still using brave on the side. The goal was to see why so many people are hosting on Brave and are yet to switch.
So the first browser I used was the Tenta Online security browser. And let me tell you, that's one of the better browsers out there.
It comes with an inbuilt VPN service, which has access to hundreds of servers(there's a US West AND US East server) for FREE. You also get the ability to block websites with passwords set by a trusted person(got if you have addictions to, say Instagram) and an ad free experience out of the gate. Yes, thus browser blocks every single ad type on the internet. Video ads, text ads, gif ads, it blocks them all.
The only problem I have with this browser is its size. The browser starts off at a reasonable 135MB on iOS (75MB on Android), but within a week of using it, it's storage taken up is now a whopping 510MB. I have no idea why it takes so much space up. I tried clearing the cache and data everyday, but the next day it was filled right up.
Aside from that, Brave equally trumps this browser because of the fact that it pays its users. That alone is an incentive to keep using it.
2. Ghostery
I also used ghostery, a privacy focused browser. This one has no ad blocker installed in it, but it does protect your IP address by spoofing it.(hence the ghost in the name)
The browser tries to hide your true IP address by sending empty packets of information to site servers when they check for your IP. This keeps you well cloaked and almost impossible to find. Almost though.
Which is why there's also an inbuilt VPN service. While that VPN isn't half as extensive as the one on Tenta, it has about 5 countries and works pretty well.
That said, there are ads in the browser interface that really take away from the experience. Contrary to brave. Bummer.
Well guys, I have done my experiment but haven't been able to come up with conclusions. If you can be paid for using your browser while having privacy features and ad blocking at the same time, then you should.
