Corruption is leading to economic decline in Russia, caused by the irrational use of resources and the waste of human potential. This dwarfs any debt and GDP problems that the West has. In the current political situation, Russia may not have much time before the country ceases to function as an economic state.

How big is Russian corruption and how big is it compared to other countries like the US or Ukraine and what does that mean for the world today? First of all, out of 180 countries, Russia is ranked 141st in corruption, so it's a pretty corrupt country.

I was stopped by the police once, where there was an unsanctioned rally going on within range, most people would have panicked, but I handed over my passport, the policeman opens my passport and there are 2,000 rubles in it, the policeman doesn't say anything to me, he just looks at me and I tell him that it's a gift for his family. So I didn't tell him, take it, it's for you, I just said that it's a gift for his family. He took the gift and gave me my passport back. The policeman went one way and I went my way, we didn't look back, we didn't say a word, we just took it calmly. And living in Russia, I understand that this country is corrupt from A to Z, from top to bottom. "A small leak sinks a great ship" - a great quote, suitable for Russia.

Let me tell you another story. He is called a Russian writer, although in fact he is a Ukrainian writer. Well, never mind, let there be a Ukrainian author in Russian literature))) We are talking about Nikolai Gogol. He wrote a book "Dead Souls", and this story is about a guy named Chichikov, he collected dead souls. These are people who passed away, but were still listed in the tax office, and he bought them in order to use them in his fraudulent scheme. This clever plot of the book takes place in 1835. So even in literature 200 years ago, there was already talk about widespread corruption in Russia.

Based on personal experience, the index and the experience of respected classics of Russian literature, one can form an idea of ​​how corrupt society is and what corruption does to Russia. It leads to irrational use of resources, brain drain, restraint of business development, high prices, low quality, blocking of foreign investment, this causes such damage to the economy that Russia is in 141st place. On the same level as Somalia, Venezuela, Syria and North Korea. In Russia, it is customary to think that we have a low international debt, first of all, I will say right away, I personally do not know how low our debt is. Undoubtedly, the debt to GDP ratio is a burden on the economy. But corruption that has been going on for centuries is a much greater brake, such corruption can be compared with the equivalent of an external debt of 500 trillion dollars. In a country where there is corruption from A to Z, there will be no economic development. If you are a student, you want to pass an exam, you bribe your professor. If you need to see a doctor, bypassing long lines and a long wait, you give a gift to the doctor. All these bribes and gifts are essentially a shadow economy, a black market. And this is a huge burden on the country's economy and an irrational use of its resources. Yes, there is corruption in the same Ukraine, but this country is somewhere in the middle of this list, it is higher on the list, and in the past it was much lower in the index. And this looks pretty good. Because Ukraine is on the same level with developed countries. The United States is in 24th place. Countries with no corruption or a low level of corruption are Denmark, Finland, Sweden.

If you correlate with other indices, for example, with the freedom index in Russia, then the real state of affairs in Russia becomes even more obvious. This is a fake economy, these are bribes, and this means that any statements about growth and economic development are a bluff and a deception. At the same time, the main problem comes from society, corruption comes not from the mind, but from the corrupted spirit itself. Here you have the age-old component of the Russian soul. Corruption is a culture, not individuals.

Corruption is a disaster for any country. To make the country better, it is necessary to create a transparent democracy, get rid of the centralization of power from the top down. Corruption in the Russian economy is like the classic literary novel "Dead Souls" - it is a dead economy. As long as this state of affairs continues, we will only see the collapse of reforms and the collapse of the economy in our country. And remember my story about the gift for the policeman's family?
