Liverpool's remarkable run
Love them or hate them, you can't help but respect what has been a truly remarkable record-breaking run of results for Liverpool football club in the Premier League. As it stands, their current points total in the league this season is 79 from a possible 81. They have won 26 of their 27 games, only dropping points when drawing away 1-1 at their bitter rivals Manchester United earlier in the season. Their recent win over West Ham at Anfield meant they equalled Manchester City's previous winning run of 18 games in a row. They could top that this weekend and it is one of many records the club has broken or is close to breaking.

The record-breaking stats:
- Liverpool have won 35 of their last 36 games in the league, drawing the other game, giving them 106 points out of a possible 108, an amazing statistic when you consider that when Pep Guardiola's Manchester City won the Premier League in the 2017-2018 season they won it with a record breaking total of 100 points.
- They are unbeaten in 44 league games across two seasons, the second highest run ever, but still 5 games less than Arsenal's incredible 49 game unbeaten run under Arsene Wenger in 2003-2004
- Liverpool's 79 points after 27 games is the best ever record in any of the top five European football leagues, better than any team has ever achieved including the Spanish greats Barcelona, Real Madrid; the Italian greats AC Milan and Juventus; and the great German side, Bayern Munich.
- They have the most consecutive Premier League home wins - 21, recently beating Manchester City's record of 20, and equalled Manchester City's record of 18 consecutive PL wins in their recent 3-2 victory over West Ham.
As Liverpool's charismatic manager Jurgen Klopp would say:

If they keep on winning they are set to break many more records in what has become a defining season for them. Last season they broke the record for most points for a second placed team in the Premier League, when they achieved 97 points, yet lost the league to Manchester City by a single point. In most other PL seasons 97 points would have easily won them the league, other than Manchester City's huge 100 point winning season. Liverpool went on to win the Champions League last season in their second consecutive final and it seems that win, and being so close last season in the Premier League, has spurred them on to even greater achievements.

So what do you think? One question in particular remains...can Liverpool go the whole season unbeaten?
I would suggest this is unlikely given they have some tough away games at Manchester City, who have a point to prove; at Arsenal, who will want to be the only team ever to go a season unbeaten in the league; and at a rejuvenated Everton with Carlo Ancelotti now their new manager and who has overseen good results against Liverpool in the past managing other European teams (Napoli, AC Milan). Plus if Liverpool do win the league early will they then rest players in the league to focus on other competitions they could still win, such as the Champions League or the FA Cup?
Whatever happens, this team will certainly be one for the history books.
