Ethereum Classic (ETC) is an open source, blockchain-based platform that runs smart contracts and is used for dApps development. It is a decentralised Turing-complete Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) that can execute scripts using the network of public nodes.

Ethereum Classic was created as a result of a disagreement with the accepted DAO hard-fork of Ethereum Foundation. It united the Ethereum community members who neglected the DAO hard-fork due to philosophical reasons stated in the Ethereum Classic Declaration of Independence. People who had ETH before the DAO hard-fork got the same amount of ETC after the hard-fork was completed.
