Scam Websites

We have all encountered websites from ads or PTC that we can tell is too good to be true or is obviously fake.

However, sometimes we might feel unsure and think, it won't hurt to sign up just to see. So, we then signup with email and password and then see that it is for sure a scam and just close the tab and never return. But, secretly, these websites don't just use your time, they use your credentials. 

You see, when you click on a scam, the first and foremost way they make their money is by you viewing their ads or you depositing crypto (which you should never do). But, once you sign up to try, the operators will then use your exact combination of email and password and then use bots to try those on a bunch of websites like exchanges, earning platforms, banking, or websites with any sort of personal information. 

You just fell for one of the hardest scams to stop once started. Within minutes, attackers can gain control of a majority of the websites you use just like that, while for you, it is practically impossible to stop or reverse it.

How to prevent it

In order to prevent that trap when trying out a site, there are multiple things you can do. The options are: 

• Unique password for every website
• 2 Factor Authorization/ 2FA
• Sign in with google or other services
• Consider using brave browser and its email alias for up to 5 different emails that link to your personal one

By implementing these four things, you can ensure that attacker will either face extreme difficulty or be down right impossible for them to access other websites apart from their own.

Non-scams

Now, you do have to realize that you are trusting the website/company to hold you credentials safe. And, if a hacker manages to access the web servers and its information, then it can result in the same consequences as above. So, stay safe and using the four methods I listed above will greatly help you reduce your risk on these websites.
