Dissecting my favorite portions of Proverbs 14
4 Without oxen a stable stay clean,
but you need a strong ox for a large harvest.
If you want to accomplish a goal, it will take a degree of effort. Notice how there’s an emphasis on adjectives. Both are proportionally tied. Another note, just because you put in a lot of effort does not mean your outcome is guaranteed to be proportional to your outcome i.e., hard work does not always mean great results. But if you want to have great results, you will need to put in the effort. Sometimes, some effort is sufficient. So, this is case by case.
8 The prudent understand where they are going,
but fools deceive themselves.
I’ll use something that this community can understand. Buy the dips. You are an early investor in crypto. If and a BIG IF, the market crashes, let’s say the next hour (which is highly improbable), we all know the market will recuperate and that there are more ATHs to be reached. A 30% dip is nothing. For people not in the know, well, they would be emotional and lose their money and sell their crypto, losing their opportunity for long-term gains.
24 Wealth is a crown for the wise;
the effort of fools yields only foolishness.
It’s interesting that the Bible says that wealth is a mark of wisdom. Did you know that in the US, 8 out of 10 millionaires are self-made? It takes planning to become rich. You need money if you want to have a larger philanthropic impact.
30 A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body;
jealousy is like cancer in the bones.
Lastly, enjoy your wins and celebrate with other people. Unfortunately, I can’t share any financial milestones with my contemporaries and even close friends. I always get this feeling that the other person is thinking “Why do you deserve that? If anything, I deserve it more that you.” Quite frankly, I’ve felt this in the past myself and I try my best to be cognizant of other people’s feelings. We have to track our progress by making comparisons to our past selves. Enjoy life and keep making strides forward!
