The Eye Like A Strange Balloon Mounts Toward Infinity is a lithograph made by Odilon Redon in 1882. It was inspired by Edgar Allan Poe, and is on display at the L.A. County Museum of Art:

In 1995, the BBC commissioned Canadian filmmaker Guy Maddin to make a short film inspired by it. It's about a father and son who fall in love with a girl they rescued from a train wreck, and who end up competing for her affections. Everybody gets caught up in the whirlwind, and people lose their sight and turn into cactuses, just like they do in real life.
I think it's a brutally-realistic love story, especially the part where the girl is swinging the guy's severed head around and pulling her teeth out by the root, so I re-edited the film to make a music video for my song "No Reason To Stay," which you can watch below.
Thanks for listening.
No Reason To Stay
The sun is bangin' down the gavel
and I'm a-travelin' down the road
my tires are grindin' down the gravel
I paid everything I owed
She showed me all her lovin'
but my heart is far away
you are beautiful,
my darling,
but I've got no reason to stay
I left her standing on the doorstep
chain-smoking cigarettes
throwing empty wine bottles,
insults,
and angry epithets
She doesn't really love me,
but I, no
I just can't make her believe
that she's got no business with me
and I've got every reason to leave
The sun is down
and the moon is out
I once was in love,
but I got out
She said, I need
someone to hold me,
but she never told me
how much I'd have to pay
I said,
I will miss you my darling,
but I've got no reason to stay
I will miss you
my darling,
but I've got no reason to stay
