Rock & Roll Garage Sale (redux)

By Nathan Payne | pablosmoglives | 21 Apr 2025

My Bandcamp is live again, after nearly a decade of being in private mode.  Not only does Bandcamp fail to provide alternative payment platforms, such as direct deposit, they take it upon themselves to automatically donate their proceeds on certain days to various hateful, racist, self-righteous political causes.  "Juneteenth" comes to mind; probably, there are others.  For this reason, I abandoned the platform years ago, in the event somebody accidentally purchased one of my albums on a fake, racist, anti-white unholy-day.

But I did rejoin Paypal recently, and since it's been years, I decided to take all my albums out of private mode and put them up for sale again.  If you visit my Bandcamp page on "Juneteenth," however, and find that everything is hiding under a digital rock, now you know why.

The original "Rock & Roll Garage Sale" deal still stands, without the 50% discount.  If you want to buy the whole discography for $100, or 3 albums for $20, feel free to donate to my Paypal, and I will send you the download codes for the albums of your choice.  But for the time being, it's also possible to just buy albums in a one-off fashion.  Donate via the link in the image below to take advantage of the garage sale.

But if you just want to buy a one-off album, or take 3 of the best, let me give you some suggestions.  Some of the albums are better than others.  Some of them stand alone as strong albums in and of themselves; some are held together by safety pins and duct tape.  I like all the songs, and there is an obvious evolution in the writing over the last nearly quarter century, but the production value on some of the albums is very, very poor.  Vampire Cats comes to mind immediately.  I love everything about that album except how it sounds.  Don't buy Vampire Cats.  It's available for free on my YouTube channel for a reason.

So, what albums are best?  If I had to pick one, just one, to take with me on a desert island as proof that I was ever a songwriter, it would be Fabulous Dream.  The title track is one of the best songs I will ever write, and the whole album just comes together perfectly.  Right behind that, I'd say go with any combination of

Holy Smokes

Rural Mortis

Wild Hearts Forever

Broken Bird

American Infidel

All The Diamonds You Can Eat

Those are probably the best.  After that, I'd look at

Love is Wasted

Your Arms Inside Me

Is It For Real?

Wild Irish Rose

Stupid Old Heart

Slow-Burning Fun

At which point, you can probably find some decent material on albums like

California Death Trip

No Destination

Garage d'Or

And the overly underproduced

What's The Deal, Bufu Harem?

Angels on Fire

Vampire Cats

I left out Everything I Have Is Yours and the live album from Santiago, Chile, because they're different.  Everything I Have Is Yours is a gospel album, and live albums are different from studio recordings (or attempts at studio recordings).  You can't do much with them in terms of production.  They are what they are.

Thanks for listening.  Keep in mind that I like the writing on ALL the albums, and if it's available for listening on any platform, I like the song or recording for one reason or another.  There are great songs and recordings scattered throughout even the D-list suggestions, and in fact I like all the songs.  I never finish anything I don't like, nevermind taking the time to actually try to record it.  Some songs never make it past the notebook phase.  They are rare, but they do exist.  Nothing in my discography is in that camp.

So feel free to peruse the digital card tables set up in my garage.  In fact I'm writing this email in a garage right now.  So there you go.  Welcome to my workshop, and thanks again for listening.
