"Content creators have an agenda; artists are engaged in the process of discovery.
Creators of content are factory workers; artists are panning for gold.
Artists experience the revealing of the work before their eyes much
like a child opening a Christmas present; content creators produce
material for consumption (including by themselves).
The two are opposites."
Good Art vs. Sick Content
The following is my comment posted on the video below, in response to someone with enough unimaginative prowess to refer to an artist like MP as "comrade." What a horrible, horrible culture you have enabled:
Everyone is being suppressed. In culture, like everything, you get what you pay for. If artists like MP were able to make a living wage and achieve household-name independence, he could transcend the now-entirely-unnecessary need for the system to go out of its way to cherry pick people to suppress, when it can simply make it impossible to rise above the walls of oblivion that EVERYONE is standing behind.... I know people on "both" sides of the manufactured divide who are toiling away in oblivion. True artists, all. It is unnecessary to suppress people; it is only necessary to ignore them, and
Since 50% of the population feels morally obligated to ignore the other 50%, and self-righteous and superior in doing so, regardless of whatever side of the manufactured divide you're told you're on, most people have allowed themselves to become unwitting participants in the building of those walls. This is because we live in a culture in which CONTENT has become more important than ART. Content dictates and patronizes; art asks questions, of itself and others. Matt is one of dozens of people I have met who are more than capable of carrying the mantle of household-name independence, but you've never heard of any of them either. I've probably met around 100, which means there are tens of thousands. Forced into a social-media plantation to gain "followers" (a cult-leader word), not "fans" (a word for people who appreciate someone's work). This problem is so ubiquitous that OnlyFans, which started out as a way for artists to connect with their fans, became a mill for sexually-explicit content. So it's not a matter of Matt being suppressed because he has an opinion. He's suppressed because he's an artist, not a content monkey. There are no household-name artists who speak for the would-be people, en masse, today. But Kanye West, a one-hit wonder from 20 years ago with no talent, still has a presence in the mainstream news cycle (how convenient). There is much patriotic content, religious content, and other content, set to music today, but art in this climate is struggling. The climate is not political. To believe so is to become intentionally nearsighted, because it makes one feel good. Morally superior and therefore capable of atrocities, if history is any precedent. Words like "comrade" are a red flag. Such thinking is anathema to the arts.
Well, it's your funeral.
It is not a secret why there is no soundtrack to whichever manufactured revolution you decide you want to buy into, the only secret is the fact that people actually think they're not buying into anything, and believe what they believe of their own accord. Of course, I'm sure that exists all over the place, but people have been trained to suppress themselves. All the system has to do is feed pellets of moral superiority to the mice in the cage, and no one will ever dream that they are in a cage. The sanctimony of such a system is unbreathable to anything but vapid influencer culture consumers and content monkeys.
Matt, missed this song, love the video. Love the way you include everyone under your diamond microscope of critical perception. If you can get your fans to ask questions instead of dictating terms, you will have achieved much. The last thing the world needs is more self-righteous, anti-dimensional content set to music. Keep it up.
Onward,
NP
