Timing is the key for successful blogging

By OshO | OshO | 14 Dec 2020

I want to write a post that everyone will read !

Each and everyone of us has already had that thought. When we talk about content creation, there is only one constant : Search for approval and recognition.

Of course the content, the tone and the writing style are key factors for a successful post, but we are not going to talk about that here. I'm not an expert in any of those, but there is one thing that can be key in the success of a post : Timing.

This post will not only be about blog posting on Publish0x, I'm also going to talk about social medias like Facebook or Linkedin. In fact, you will be able to extrapolate the advices given here to all types of media.

  Know your audience

When you write a post, an article or even a tweet, you have to ask a very simple question :
Who am I writing this for ? and when are they in front of their computer ?

If I take the example of writing a post about blogging techniques (Like this one), my targets are all the content creators but I have to try beeing more specific : Those who might be the more interested by my content are the non-professional authors that try to enlarge their audience.

Some social networks have already done this segmentation :

If I am writing a Linkedin post to present the last product of my startup or a Facebook post to share pictures of my cats, the target will be different.

At the end of the day the purpose is the same : get a large audience and get approval in my social circle.

  For traditional social networks

A lot of very serious studies based on numbers and figures share the "right day and right time" to share content on social medias.

If you are interested in those results, tell me in the comments and I'll write an article about those results !

But as an example, there are more interactions on Facebook posts everyday from 6pm to 8pm. When you exceed this time you loose an average of 20% of your audience every hour.

In the other hand, when publishing on Linkedin you have to target on Tuesday and Thursday between 11 AM and 2PM to get the best results.

Because the target is not the same, the timing will be different.

What about the timing of blogs ?

It's been less than a week since I'm publishing on Publish0x so I will not give a firm answer to this questions.

However, I've been blogging for a while on Publish0x and I can make some assumptions.

Blogging is a hobby

The majority of people on Publish0x are here on their free time, blogging is a hobby for them. I would then calibrate on the same recommendations as a Facebook post.

So I would suggest to publish between 6PM and 8PM.

Blogging is global

However, I think there is a major difference between blogging on Publish0x and publishing on facebook is geographical.
When you publish a Facebook post, your "target" are in the same city/country/time zone as you. That means that your 7PM is their 7PM.

It is in the essence of blogs to link people that have the same interests instead of classic social interactions (friends of friends, colleagues, etc..) which are often based in a small geographical perimeter.
Publish0x doesn't make an exception to that.

The real question is then : Where are located the people using Publish0x ?

Of course I couldn't find an answer to that HaHa !
So, I assumed that it was the US. That's an option and the results are indicating that I may be right.

To complete my previous. statement with this :

I would suggest to publish when it is 5:30PM on the west-coast.
Which can be written as 1:30 AM GMT

You have to translate this time to your time-zone to know when to publish. You can use a time-zone converter to do so.

All of that is based on my personal experience, if you have another opinion, share it in the comment section !

  Reflexions

Schedule option

To help us publish our articles at the right time without staying up all night or worrying about your posts at work, there should be a Schedule option of the editor.

Curation equalizing chances

On a blog like Publish0x, the curation lower the impact of publishing timing on the performance of articles.

Content curation is the process of gathering information relevant to a particular topic or area of interest, usually with the intention of adding value through the process of selecting, organizing, and looking after the items in a collection or exhibition.

The idea is to highlight good articles and put them in the front page. It promotes good content and prevent good articles from being drowned in the mass.

  Conclusion

In this article I wanted to show you a way to stand out from other bloggers with timing control.
When I finish writing an article, I want to publish it right away to present my work. But timing control helps me get the maximum audience for my posts, that's why I would like to schedule it for later !
I hope you found it interesting, try this out and share your results !

Tell me what you think about my method and show me yours in the comment section

Thanks you for reading me until the end !

Take care
