The Excuse

The invitation was either meant and come from the heart,

Or it was only said for the purpose of public image,

So that he could look good in front of the audience.

I was initially pleased and only too keen to accept,

Meet, while away the hours over coffee and wine…

It was going well, until I replied and accepted,

Tried to staple him down to smart specifics.

That was when he burbled an excuse about Covid-19,

About how it was keeping him away.

It’s the same with my girlfriend and for everyone else in the world,

No-one wants to breathe on each other anymore,

For fear of killing them.

Maybe they have taken the warnings from the doctors and the government and the united nations,

Either taken them to heart, else used them for a matter of convenience

To not speak with their old friends again.

Was there something about their old friends which they were not happy with?

Should we all be seen to be good and agree with them,

Go along with their sacrificial act to do as they do and

Isolate for the foreseeable future?

When will the isolation end?

Won’t it make us lonely?

Is the purpose of the isolation to be free of disease?

Or is it merely to be not bothered by the people we have met and pretended to be friends with?

Is being free of disease a virtuous condition of existence?

Do you get brownie points with the doctors, the government and the ‘UN’ If you do not have a disease? Is it good?

Are the diseased people inherently bad and to be ignored and avoided? It seems so.

I'm an author.

One step forward, two steps back.
One step forward, two steps back.

We can say by metaphysics that our lives are planned and predictable, though seeing the events and situations in our lives in the reality of what they are ontologically there is no interpretation of them that implies greater meaning. From a nihilistic point of view we do not have any lives and there is no meaning. So this is about my views on life.
