Tottenham missed the chance to go ahead of Chelsea on goal difference into 4th place when Newcastle United dented their hope. Tottenham has been struggling just like Newcastle who would be hoping to avoid a relegation battle as they are only 3 points ahead of Fulham who sits in 18th place.

Newcastle hosted Jose Mourinho's men on the evening and you would expect it to be intense with both teams having a lot at stake.

In the early exchanges, both teams had decent chances while some were half chances. There were also chances that the goalkeepers comfortably gathered but the real moment came when Gayle had two wonderful chances saved by Hugo Lloris in the 19th minute. He had a brilliant header saved by Lloris before the rebound was gathered by the goalkeeper as well. Lloris was brilliant to keep both efforts out and the second one could have trickled off the line if he wasn't careful as he picked the ball from his back.

Vinicius thought he had scored in the 24th minute when he slotted his effort into the back of the net coolly only to be correctly flagged for offside.

In the 28th minute, Newcastle United took the lead when Joelinton was played right inside the box. He calmly slotted it home with ease to make it 1-0. It wasn't long after (in the 30th minute) that Harry Kane was played in but the effort was blocked off and still managed to find him. He scored one of the simplest goals you would ever see with that tap in to make it, 1-1.

Harry Kane puts Tottenham ahead in the 34th minute and also scored his second goal of the night when he was played through again on the side of the box. He had it all to do and after driving in, he unleashed a lovely strike to make it 2-1. It was a lovely strike and the power and angle he picked showed perfection.

Newcastle tried everything to draw level but they lacked that cutting edge and that final pass that could have done the damage. The same can be said for Tottenham as well who tried to extend their lead. Kane could have grabbed his hat-trick in the 85th minute when his brilliant effort struck the upright.

Heartbreak came for Tottenham in the 85th minute when Willock smashed home a ball that fell to him inside the box to draw his side level, 2-2.

It was a moment of heartbreak for Tottenham and missed the opportunity to break into the top 4 while Newcastle should be happy with the one point while they try to go game by game to avoid the drop.
