Coinbase Airdropped OMG Tokens to Ethereum Holders

By Abhimanyu Krishnan | News | 29 May 2020

On May 29, Coinbase airdropped OmiseGO (OMG) tokens to long-term Ethereum (ETH) holders. The airdrop, which was first announced as a part of a decision made in 2017, will see users who have held ETH on the airdrop date of July 7, 2017 receive 0.075 OMG for every 1 ETH they hold.

Coinbase did not support the OMG asset at the time, but now that it does, it is following up on its part of the deal to airdrop OMG to users who held ETH at the time.

Users on Reddit are also reporting that they have received the OMG due, though they are generally speaking disappointed at how much they are receiving in fiat terms.

The OMG token was recently added to the Coinbase Pro platform, a step that usually precedes the addition of the token onto the standard platform for retail investors. Sure enough, OMG was added to the primary platform later, along with support in the mobile apps.

OmiseGO is a Thailand-based project that is a blockchain and cryptocurrency effort run by its parent company, Omise. It is known for its use of Plasma scaling, decentralized clearinghouses and having Vitalik Buterin as an advisor.

OmiseGO has received a lot of fanfare for its efforts to unfreeze funds stuck in digital wallets, which are commonly used in Southeast Asia. Additionally, it aims to help users keep track of assets, from fiat to airline miles, and have them easily converted in a digital marketplace.
