US Consumer Data - it's in areas you are not even aware of
As every common sense consumer knows that 'you' are the product for Social Media, a handful very large data collectors are slinging your private data more than likely without your knowledge and profiting from you! Where else might your personal info be floating around?
Below you will find three (3) areas I recently learned my data was: The names of the agencies have been hidden to protect myself from 'slander' lawsuits.
Did you know that most smart vehicles call into the Insurance Agencies with data about your trips? I was shocked when I received a copy of Insurance Report recently and was like what is this? The report doesn't contain specifics just car started and was driven for xx minutes. Car restarted and driven xx minutes, nor are they listed in chronological order so its hard for a human to put into what is weekend errand running vs, emergency store run. I envision this would not be hard for AI/ML to put into patterns (Hourly, Daily, Weekly, Monthly, etc.) and used against you as the Green Revolution takes over and they want to tax you for miles driven in your... dare I say it - Internal Combustion Engine. "How Dare You". LOL
I have to assume it was in one the 100's of pages of signatory when I purchased the vehicle in the past couple of years. Sad but true, data is on the move to places I did not envision.
Another placed I learned my data was still in an active Database was when I received a Class Action breach notification in the mail from a former sub-tier mobile telephone carrier that I used nearly 20-years ago. Why is my stale data still in active customer database? Oh and thanks for not protecting it your pink turd!
Ah yes, the simple hobby of enjoying an evening at the Movie theater was changed forever due to COVID-19 pandemic. Can you ever subject yourselves to sitting in a room full of coughing and sneezing germ farms? Nah, me either! There is a movie-chain that was purchased by Chinese a few years ago that abused their 'Rewards' program that ended in the symbol of '+' by sending out your information without prior authorization.
Makes me think of the doctors for surgery where you are signing over your rights to your body parts if removed for their sale. Did you catch that? The Doctor gets to sell your tumor or whatever they remove from you. You don't get one cold dime!
Summary - treat your personal information and privacy with caution! Ask Doctors, Dentists, Lawyers what they need your information for and how it is protected. I guarantee they will look at your like you have three eyes and purple ears! I still love do to ask!! US Consumers don’t have a lot of control over what happens to their data and its all by design, tell your friends about DeFi and the benefits of Blockchain! I will more stringent in signing up for reward programs, etc. moving forward!
