What have they built? thru their DCS (Decentralized Cloud Storage) Storj is now offering a 'pinning' service using InterPlanetary File System (IPFS), a decentralized protocol to allow for long term performant storage for NFT's (Non-fungible Tokens) additionally, content addressable storage in dApps found in Web 3.0. The pinning service will be for Storj's enterprise grade decentralized storage changing the NFT storage game overnight.
Why is Storage Important for NFTs? NFT owners demand immutability, permanence, and resistance to tampering. Put another way, fast and secure! Wonder if BAYC owners wish they used this Beta offering prior to this week?
Who is IPFS? InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) is a protocol and peer-to-peer network for storing and sharing data in a distributed file system. The IPFS pinning service packages and stores the content on DCS with its global network of over 13,500 nodes in 100+ countries, providing assurance that the data pinned is durable. It can endure data center outages/fires, environmental disasters, and geopolitical unrest and their assured attempt at confiscation (it's in the tyrant handbook, they have to)
How does it work? A combination of DCS & IPFS to generates an IPFS content address (CID) and then upload to DCS. Where it is 'chunked' and spread out over the Storj cloud nodes.
