Pipe Network cuts Solana sync time
What is Pipe Network?
Permissionless Labs created Pipe Network to be a decentralized infrastructure project. One major design element, is it can perform like a CDN (Content Delivery Network), think of it as a network cache to speed delivery of content, directly cutting recovery timeframes. From a funding perspective Pipe had their first funding round, where they raised $10M with the assistance of Multicoin Capital back in '24.
What is Pipe Network actually doing for Solana?
Pipe is acting as a high-speed delivery network specifically for snapshots of Solana’s ledger. These are snapshots of accounts at a given point in time - (PiT). Solana 'Validators' use these snapshots to restore state quickly after outages, updates or desynchronization events, enabling nodes to catch up with the network and rejoin consensus without full reprocessing, which alleviates lots of overhead in an emergency recovery scenario.
So, how large is this Solana network snapshot?
Pipe reports handling approximately 100 TB of snapshot traffic daily, 700 TB weekly. Which amounts to around 3 PB per month. For context, Solana node operators collectively share an estimated 7–14 PB of snapshot data monthly to help validators and RPC nodes bootstrap. This is quite of bit of data captured monthly and as Solana's success continues to accelerate these values will climb.
Pipe Network Recovery Outcomes
Independent labs have reported 30% faster node initialization and far lower infrastructure costs. Clearly demonstrating a huge impact to Solana network stability.
Summary
Pipe network's snapshot contribution is a considerable share of the Solana network’s overall bandwidth burden and blockchain stability via the ability to recover rapidly. I will continue to look for other great offerings from Pipe Network as their tech sounds like it could help other blockchains too.
