Cloud Computing and its Benefits

The readiness of computer system resources on-demand like data storage and computing power without a user's active management is known as 'cloud' computing.

Cloud computing appeared as early as 1996. It was first known when mentioned in a Compaq internal document. The cloud symbol was used to represent networks of computing equipment in the original ARPANET in early 1977 and the CSNET by 1981.

Both came before the era of internet itself. The term cloud was used to refer to platforms for distributing computing in the early 90's. It was used by AT&T to describe their paired telescript and personal link technology.

In 2006, Amazon created its subsidiary known as Amazon Web Service, and also introduced its Elastic Computer Cloud.

In 2008, Google released its Google App Engine....

2010, Microsoft created Microsoft Azure....

and IBM introduced, IBM SmartCloud framework to provide support to smarter planet.

By June, 2012 Oracle announced the Oracle Cloud.

What Are Benefits of Cloud Computing?

1. Easy maintenance

Maintenance of cloud computing applications are easy because it doesn't need to be installed on each users computer and you can access it from any location.

2. Execution is supervised

Level at which applications are carried out is supervised by IT experts from the service provider. Any difficulty encountered by users could be resolved.

3. Security

The security can be improved due to centralization of data. Since data is controlled by the service provider, it is easy to solve security issues that customers will find difficult to resolve.

4. Measured service

Cloud computing on its own manages and optimizes resource use by taking advantage of metering capability at some level of abstraction suitable to the type of service. Here the resources can be monitored, controlled and reported making it transparent between the service provider and the customer.

5. Increased productivity

Productivity is enhanced when multiple users are working on same data simultaneously. Time may be saved as information may not be required to be re-entered when fields are matched.

6. Location and devices are self standing

Users can access systems using any web browser irrespective of their location or device like PC smartphone.

7. Reduction in cost

Cloud providers claim that its cost effective. Entry barriers are removed and infrastructure needs are provided by the third party and not to be purchased when there is need for intensive computing tasks.

8. On demand self-service

A consumer can on his/her own provide computing capabilities, network storage and server time as at when needed automatically without requiring to contract the service provider.

9. Lowers carbon footprint

It requires less physical servers. This allows companies to down size their data center or completely eliminate them. Increased level of shared files reduces the level of printouts in your team.

10. Multi-site management

Cloud computing has made it easy to manage many websites through CMS (content management system). Managing database, content and resources thereby making it cost effective in providing solution to problems.

11. Speed

Modern cloud computing provides solution to issues by applying speed. Even large volume of data to be processed can be done in shortest possible time with efficiency and accuracy maintained.

Conclusion

Cloud computing has made the world of computing easy. Database, content and files can be managed, shared and processed in a more efficient way to more productivity and cost reduction.
