Castelvetro di Modena is a small town perched on top of a hill in the Province of Modena. Probably it took origin from an old Roman camp.
To walk along the streets of the old town centre is very suggestive, especially at night when there are not so many people around.

It is not a chessboard. It is a checkerboard.

The clock tower dominates the square in which the Feast of Living Checkers is held every two years to commemorate the celebrations that the Marquis held in honor of the famous poet Torquato Tasso guest in Castelvetro in 1564.

There also is a museum where Renaissance-inspired clothes are exhibited. These clothes are used during festivals and historical reenactments and parades.
