Rooting bolete or Whitish bolete - a rare species among giants

By madventure | Nature, Photography | 15 Jan 2024

A huge variety of mushroom species can now be found in the October forest. Autumn is also the best time to look out for rare species.

These include, among others, a root mushroom similar to the boletus. This, unfortunately inedible, species of boletus can reach even gigantic sizes. The diameter of his hat can be up to 25 cm and the shaft can be up to 15 cm high and 5 cm thick.

The hat of a young mushroom is semicircular, then it flattens out. The hat's skin is dry, leathery and often cracked. It has an ocher
a brownish-gray shade and changes color when damaged. The pores also turn blue after damage.

The leg is massive, cylindrical in shape, often barrel-shaped with a delicate mesh. It is yellowish in color and full inside.

Yellowish flesh, darkens when pressed. The smell is slightly mushroom, while the taste is clearly bitter.

The fungus is found mostly in deciduous forests from summer to late fall, but it prefers warmer summers. It is not poisonous, but due to the bitterness in the flesh, it is inedible.
