Cordyceps militaris - Mushroom 10 to 100 mm high, 2 to 10 mm thick, consisting of head and stipe.

The fertile head. In the shape of a club, spindle-shaped, at the top narrowed, usually single, but sometimes branched; on the entire surface, slightly scored, verrucculated by the surroundings. Colors orange-yellow, orange-red.

Sterile stem. From 5 to 50 mm high, 2 to 5 mm thick. In off-white, yellowish, ocher color; often bent.

Flesh watery, whitish, orange; without taste and smell.

Occurrence: It parasites on larvae, pupae, insect caterpillars, especially nocturnal butterflies buried in the ground. It grows singly or a few pieces; in summer and autumn. Rare.

Value: Unaffected fungus
