I returned to the same reserve I had visited last Friday and was treated to even more wildlife encounters. Within a the first mile of my walk, I came across another snake of the same variety I had found the previous week (I've since learned that they are Eastern Garter Snakes). This one was a bit more skittish than his brave cousin from the week prior, but I was still able to snap a few shots before he raced back under the pine duff and leaves.
Just up the trail, I came across a cabin fitted with a plaque that dedicated its construction to a Mr. Reg Cridler Senior. It stands alone in the woods as the only remaining standing structure, although the remains of long since abandoned and decaying cabins dot the reserve as well.
Attached are some images of other wildlife I came across along with my assumed species IDs. I also ran across a cayote, but he was too quick for me to get any pictures of him. Maybe next time!
Northern Cinnabar Polypore (Trametes cinnabarina):
Hairy bracket (Trametes hirsuta):
Turkey tail fungus (Trametes versicolor):
Milk-white toothed polypore (Irpex lacteus):
Eastern comma butterfly (Polygonia comma):
Canadian geese (Branta canadensis):
I hope you've enjoyed walking with me.
