Signs of a softening global economic outlook have led to a search for direction in the markets. Cryptocurrencies have been the asset class that has reacted most quickly and strongly to this process. Expectations that the Fed may initiate interest rate cuts sooner have significantly increased risk appetite. Driven by this increased appetite, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Ripple have broken consecutive all-time records. On Friday, the market capitalization of cryptocurrencies surpassed $3.75 trillion, setting a new record. The record was driven by demand from individual and institutional investors. Bitcoin reached its highest level in history at $118,153. Ethereum also surpassed the $3,000 threshold, achieving its anticipated surge since the Pectra update.
The data clearly demonstrates the numerical impact of institutional investor interest. The net inflow of $1.17 billion into spot Bitcoin ETFs in one day was recorded as the second-highest daily inflow in the history of these products. The January record break demonstrates that institutional investors are rapidly implementing their digital asset strategies. A similar pattern is evident in Ethereum ETFs. The daily net inflow of $383 million was the second-highest in the history of these products. The data proves that crypto assets are considered a lasting investment class, not a fleeting sensation.
The increasing holdings of Bitcoin and Ethereum in the treasuries of publicly traded companies like Strategy, Metaplanet, and Marathon Digital Holdings indicate a strengthening of crypto assets' position in the financial system. This not only supports price growth but also contributes to market stability and manageable volatility. The Trump administration's designation of Bitcoin as a strategic reserve asset in March also paved the way for this institutional interest. This approach signals a more positive regulatory climate and serves as a guide for other countries.
Notable developments are also taking place in Ethereum. On Friday, Ethereum briefly surpassed Bitcoin in futures trading volume. This indicated that the leadership shift, referred to in market jargon as a "flippening," has occurred, albeit briefly. Technological advancements in areas such as DeFi and Layer 2 solutions are increasing Ethereum's functionality and investment appeal. A key development that will impact the market will take place in the US Congress. During "Crypto Week," which is expected to begin on July 14th, three important bills directly related to digital assets are expected to be introduced. These bills will shape the sector's legal framework and directly impact investor confidence. This means that the approval processes for many altcoin ETF applications currently under evaluation will be streamlined and tax regulations clarified. This will propel both the altcoin market and the crypto ecosystem forward.
Today, we can say that the cryptocurrency market has entered a maturing phase not only in terms of prices but also in terms of infrastructure, regulation, and investor profile. Institutional demand, improving macroeconomic conditions, and the beginnings of innovation and regulatory clarity indicate that crypto assets are now on more solid footing. The technical outlook supports this optimistic outlook, but I still advise investors to proceed with caution. So, what could happen next? If Bitcoin sustains above $118,000, it could reach $122,000 in a short time. In the event of a potential correction, the $115,000 to $112,000 range should be monitored as a key support zone. A drop below this level could signal a respite in the uptrend.
After breaking the $3,000 psychological threshold for Ethereum, all eyes are on the $3,250 and $3,500 resistance levels. Closes above $3,250 should be closely watched for continued upward momentum. Below that, the $2,800 level is a key support level to defend. Ripple traded between $2.50 and $2.91 on Friday. This strong move was driven by Ripple's application for a national bank license in the US, Grayscale's addition of XRP to its portfolio, and expectations for an XRP spot ETF.
